Jonah 1:10 KJV 1900
Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.
Proverbs 1:10–15 KJV 1900
My son, if sinners entice thee, Consent thou not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, Let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; And whole, as those that go down into the pit: We shall find all precious substance, We shall fill our houses with spoil: Cast in thy lot among us; Let us all have one purse: My son, walk not thou in the way with them; Refrain thy foot from their path:
Psalm 23 KJV 1900
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
2 Corinthians 6:14 KJV 1900
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
Psalm 119:105 KJV 1900
NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.
Jonah 1:10 (KJV 1900)
10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.
Why hast thou done this? -
I believe this is where we often lie to ourselves. Telling ourselves whatever it takes to justify or rationalize an action.
Here we see that the action was fleeing from the presence of God, let’s be honest cannot be done!
Ironically, we do the same thing, granted to varying degrees, but we do run, jog, or walk away from God. The only difference is the speed and degree of separation; none of which is beneficial!
For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.
How many times while running from God have we told others, or worse attempted to take others with us?
Proverbs 1:10-15 provides a warning for us to avoid those that desire mischief.
The 23rd Psalm (PS 23) more some PS 23:3 indicates that the Lord will guide us if we so allow him.
PS 119:105 not only reenforces, but adds substance to this, by the illuminating power of God!
As far back as Genesis (the beginning) we wee that there are but two options, Dark and Light.
2 Cor 6:14 There is no fellowship between these two
To come back to the idea of fleeing, the Bible is full of instances (Jonah being one of the most notable) and IMO Elijah 1 Kin 19:4-5
