LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S WORD BRINGS HIS JUDGMENT

I. THE CASE AGAINST THE PRIESTS AND THE PROPHETS Vv. 4-5

A. God states His case is against the priests V. 4

All have sinned and should not be arguing among themselves for God is charging the priest for the sinful condition in Israel. V. 4

Priests and prophets are both committing sin. V. 5

Priests and prophets, sins lead the people to sin and this condition would bring destruction on all Israel. V. 5c

B. THE SIN IS THE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S WORD V. 6

i. Lack of knowledge causes destruction of the people V. 6a

ii. The teachers, priest (preacher, teacher) had rejected the knowledge they had in God’s word V. 6bc

By failing to teach the people God’s word found in Scripture

By the lifestyle the priest lived

The priest rejected God’s word and will remove them from they position

The priest had been taught the word but conducted themselves as if they had forgotten it. V. 6d

God will remove their sons from the priest position (Historical comment)

When the teachers, preachers and teachers, neglect the word of God all the people suffer. There is a falling away. Just what we are experiencing in America. Without preachers calling for a great awakening in America, we are distant for God’s judgment on the whole nation. This is expressed in verse 7

II. THE MULTIPLICATION OF SIN AND THE JUDGMENT OF GOD V. 7-10

A. When the teacher, preachers and teacher, fail to teach God’s word and live a life of sin, sin increases. Vv. 7a; 8ab

B. This results in God’s judgment. V. 7c; 9ab; 10

C. The judgment comes because the teachers, preachers, teachers and the people have abandoned their devotion to the Lord.

Has in American believers, preachers, teachers and the people abandon their devotion to the Lord?

CONCLUSION: Nations that move await from the truths found in God’s word will face judgment. Romans 1:18-32 reveals a people, a nation and world which has turn away from God. I want to read this for my conclusion this morning. Please turn with me to Romans 1:18-32.

Prayer

Invitation: In America, we are experiencing a cultural shift away for God, His Son, His word and to a cultural of accepting sin. There are those who preach teachings which are contrary to God’s word. This morning have you receive the Lord Jesus as savior? If you have are you devoted to Him and His Word? If you have not received Him as savior, you can this morning. If you have and not surrender all to Him, you can this morning. However, God is leading will you make that comment to Him.
