Luke 1:1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
I. We also Surely believe the Holy Scriptures.
And by that I mean the 66 canonical books in the Authorized Version. The very word of God when freed from any errors by copyists and translators, The Word of God inerrant, infallible and containing all things necessary to salvation as our sole authority for doctrine.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Some things most surly believed. We can take the Bible and find them for ourselves and I encourage you to do that, in your personnel Bible Study take a theme perhaps one I've mentioned and study it out. Trace it through the Bible it will help solidify your faith.
II. Sin - We talked about that this morning. Sin is the willful known transgression of the known will of God. It is man's basic problem. It has been ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden.
III. We surely believe in Original Sin- The corruption of the nature of all the offspring of Adam by reason of which every one is destitute of original righteousness.
A. Is referred to in scripture as;
1. The Carnal mind
2. The Old Man
3. The Flesh
4. Sin that dwelleth in me
5. Root of Bitterness
6. Body of Death
B. It is hereditary - it is passed from parents to children, has been passed on for years. The same "Old Man"
C. Remains in heart even after regeneration, though subdued, until eradicated and destroyed by the baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire.
D. Some Traits - Though subdued:
1. Pride
2. Animosity
3. Anger
4. Complacency
5. Moodiness
Basically anything that stems from the flesh.
IV. The Atonement - Again spoke a little on this recently.
1. The shedding of Christ's blood is sufficient;
2. Nothing more needs to be done.
3. It is a full atonement
4. I'm glad that it covers those who are born or those who are saved and become irresponsible.
