LIFE Of Christ Teachers Guide
Introduction - Our study tonight will probably only cover two of the sacrifices , showing the symbolism of Christ, “Sacrifice is the solemn infliction of death on a living creature generally by effusion of its blood, in a way of religious worship; and the presenting of this act to the Deity as a supplication for the pardon of sin, and a supposed mean of compensation for the insult and injury thereby offered to his majesty and government. This was different from just an offering.”
Now while there were many sacrifices they basically fell into two categories - For the whole Congregation, and for an Individual. Under these two categories were many sacrifices there were bloodless, and bloody, burnt, and not burnt, some eaten, some not to be eaten, some for thanksgiving, some for sin, some for purification, healing, some were offered every day, some only on special days.
1. The Daily Sacrifices Instituted in Ex. 29:38-42 & Num. 28:3-10- Two lambs. One in the morning one in the evening. This was doubled on the seventh day. Two in morning two in evening.
A. Were to begin immediately after the consecration of the Tabernacle(which we did not cover) 1. These were added to the lighting of the lamps and incense.
2. Was to be a continual sacrifice, to be done every day no exceptions.
B. They were to be lambs of the first year
1. A sacrifice of Thanksgiving
A. One for the Kindnesses of the day
B. One for the merciful keeping of the night.
C. Without Spot - Whole sound healthful, BDB; Without blemish, complete, undefiled.
1. These would be searched thoroughly every part was diligently looked at and checked.
D. These were burnt offerings.
1. Mixed with:
A. flour- a tenth part of an ephah (about 2 quarts)
1. Fine flour- also used by the poor for sin offerings.
2. Mixed with the oil formed a cereal like dish.
B. Oil - fourth part of an hin (about 1 quart)
1. This was beaten oil- Ex 27: 20 “And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.”
A. The Israelites were to bring this oil.
B. The process was this,
1. Get the olives
2. Clean them from all twigs dust leaves etc.
3. Beating them (Not pressing them)
4. The oil that comes out is the finest quality and white.
C. This was used in the lamp to burn as well as with the flour in this sacrifice.
C. Wine - fourth part of an hin ( about 1 quart)
1. The Bible is not clear whether this was fermented or unfermented. Probably grape juice. More than likely it was boiled and preserved in that way to keep it from fermenting too badly.

“This typified the continual intercession which Christ ever lives to make, though he offered himself once for all, yet that one offering thus becomes a continual offering” Matthew Henry
Was to be a yearling that would have been a tender lamb how was Jesus prophesied about?
Look at Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a
root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we
shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
And He trod the winepress all alone. Told us to take and eat of his flesh, (Figurative of course)
The Olives were beaten to produce oil - Christ was beaten to produce healing (Isa. By His stripes we are healed. And, “It pleased the Lord to bruise him.”)

2. The Day Of Atonement Leviticus 16 -
A. Was instituted after Aarons son's were struck dead by the Lord.
1. He was to be wearing all that was commanded of the Lord. (We have not covered this yet) The Holy Garments.
2. He was to offer a bullock for his own sins.
A. Kill and burn the sacrifice, would take live coals from the altar, and fill hands full of incense, take it past the veil
B. Once he was there he would take the incence place it upon the live coals so that it would begin to smoke so much it would cover the mercy seat. A smoke screen so to speak between him and God.
C. He would then take the blood from the bullock and sprinkle it with his finger eastward 7 times.
3. Take two goat kids and present them to the Lord.
A. This was done by bringing them to the tabernacle door.
1. Though there were two animals, this was only one offering or sacrifice even though two different things would happen to them.
B. He would then cast lots over them
1. One for Jehovah.
2. One for a scapegoat.
C. The one for Jehovah was then a sin offering. (Probably all of this was done before he offered his sacrifice)
1. After he had place the blood from his sacrifice on the mercy seat, then he was to go and kill the goat for Jehovah.
2. He would then do with the goat what he had just done with his bullock.
3. There would then have to be a cleansing of everything.
A. Probably just by sprinkling of the blood on the altar of incense just as he had done on the mercy seat, then placing blood on the horns of the altar. (No one was to be inside the tabernacle at this time.) This would be repeated for the brazen altar outside.
D. The One for a scapegoat would then bring the live goat place both hands on the head and confess all the sins, iniquities, and transgressions, of the people of Israel.
1. This goat was never to be killed, it was sent out into the wilderness by a fit man.
A. A fit man - Heb. a man of time, that is, of years and discretion, who may be trusted with this work.
2. It was sent out to a place uninhabited. However there would be the risk of wild animals, starvation, falling down a cliff, etc. Possible that it would die in the wild but was not commanded to be killed.
A. The Jews do have in some of their histories that the “FIT MAN” would drive the goat headlong off a steep cliff so that it would fall to it’s death.

SYMBOLISM - Of course we see the substitution sacrifice.
· The blood to cover sin.
· Christ placing the blood on the mercy seat (oh 20:14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
Joh 20:15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
Joh 20:16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
Joh 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
· Christ in the Goats - The first goat was to be killed, the second was not. Death and life. Christ was both he was the sacrifice and he bore our sins. He also was preist in that he placed his own blood before the Father.
The Priests laid their hands on the goat and confessed their sins. A prime example of repentance and faith toward God and Christ. We lay our hands by faith on Christ and confess our sins to God. Look at Act 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
· The goats were to be sent in the wilderness and neglected by all men, could symbolize Christ being forsaken by men, his disciples, and even God.
· Parts of the goat were to be taken outside the camp and burned, So Christ was taken outside the camp of Israel and crucified,
