2Kings 3:1-24 Revival By Obedience
The NT covers only about 100 years while the OT covers thousands of years. You can learn a lot by watching their decisions, choices, and actions. Tonight I want to show us that OBEDIENCE brings GOD’s BLESSING. If we had time we could go back to Exodus and read how the children of Isreal were to build the tabernacle in Chapter 39 and 40 the phrase, “as the LORD commanded” is used 18 times. We would read in Exodus 39:43, “Behold they had done it as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.” The blessing would not have come had they not first obeyed. We can find that in King Saul, he didn’t obey and paid ultimately with his life, he not only missed his blessing but his testimony was, “the Lord hath departed from me and answeres me no more”
With revival coming I want us to start thinking now about obedience. Do you always obey in the service? Do you obey speedily?
We see in this scripture reading that the Children of Isreal both Jehoram was in trouble. We see in Jehoram a partial obedience. He did away with the statues of Baal but left the calf worship. Moab gave tribute unto Jehoram who was king in Samaria but then came the day he was done paying (TELL STORY )
Even Elisha was inspired by music. I have read over this many times but only caught that today. I have been places where they thought it was just emotionalism, or sensationalism to get blessed during singing. But we see that Elisha was moved by the minstrel. The hand of the Lord came upon him.
We see first-
1. God commands - They were told to dig ditches, to go down in the valley and fill it full of ditches. God would supply water, don’t worry about that you just dig ditches.
A. so it is with us today - God says something in church do it
1. Sometimes it is out of church in the home
- Sometimes when you’re up here you don’t always sense what is going on in the congregation, it happened here a few weeks ago, but I remember a couple of times back at Foley, the pastor would be about to shut things down but I could tell in my spirit God wasn’t done, he would give me something to do, even if it seemed strange I knew I had to do it, start a song, walk whatever. I remember one time God had given me a promise about something and one time God asked me to read it, It was fellowship meeting there was a lot of people there but God said do it. I stood everyone was getting ready to go, but I had to obey God, and he came and blessed us it was so good. Anytime you think I’m shutting it off to soon obey God. He’ll show you what to do.
2. God expects us to obey - This was not something ordinary for these people to do. They were stuck out here without any water, would soon die of thirst and God says dig ditches. Go to work but he had a plan God knew what he was doing.
3. God fulfills - God gave just what they needed He filled the ditches with water. Are you thirsty tonight. Some of you have been doing this already, I have sensed God helping you, I’m hoping it will make the rest a little thirsty and hungry. God wants to help us but we must obey. Are you thirsty, dig some ditches let God fill them and flow thru you. What did he promise? I WILL POUR WATER ON HIM THAT IS THIRSTY AND FLOODS UPON THE DRY GROUND.
