1 Timothy 6:20 The Authentic Word 4
“Religion has nothing to fear from true science, and the minister of the gospel is not exhorted to dread that. Real science, in all its advances, contributes to the support of religion; and just in proportion as that is promoted will it be found to sustain the Bible, and to confirm the claims of religion to the faith of mankind. …It is only false or pretended science that religion has to dread, and which the friend of Christianity is to avoid.” Albert Barnes
We have been seeing how the Bible is authenticated by outside sources. How it matches with the real evidence from archaeology, science, and history. We seen last week how that the Bible is consistent with astronomy. Today we want to look at Biology.
B. Biology is the science that studies living organisms. Looking at a few scriptures we can see how the conclusions of Biology agree with the Bible.
1. Blood - Leviticus written before 1400 BC talks about the value of blood.
Lev 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
A. Blood carries water and nourishment to every cell, maintains the body’s temperature, and removes the waste material of the body’s cells. The blood also carries oxygen from the lungs throughout the body. In 1616, William Harvey discovered that blood circulation is the key factor in physical life—confirming what the Bible revealed 3,000 years earlier.
2. Biogenesis - The development of living organisms from other living organisms)
Gen 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
A. Notice the phrase “after his kind” which means that Bermuda grass reproduces Bermuda grass, petunias produce petunias, apes produces apes, fish produced fish, etc. you catch my drift. It produced just like it does today, after its kind.
3.The scriptures also talk about the chemical breakdown of the body, made of dust to dust you shall return.
C. Geology - Geology is the study of the Earth, the materials of which it is made, the structure of those materials, and the processes acting upon them http://geology.com/articles/what-is-geology.shtml
1. The Bible is consistent with the evidence from this view of science as well look at,
Jer 31:37 Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
A. Some scientist claim to have measured everything however all human attempts do drill beneath the earths crust to the core have all ended in failure. We have already talked about how immeasurable the heaven’s are above us.
B. The Bible addressed the shape of the world even before they found out it wasn’t flat. You can find this in
Isa 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
1. The word circle is from a Hebrew word meaning a sphere shape, or rounded or arched shape.
D. Hydrology - the branch of geology that studies water on the earth and in the atmosphere: its distribution and uses and conservation
Scriptures like:
Psa 135:7 He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.
Jer 10:13 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
Here we see the hydrologic cycle these verses go even farther to show us evaporation, lightning and thunder, and precipitation
Job 36:27 For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:
Job 36:28 Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.
Job 36:29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?
Ecc 1:7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
Isa 55:10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
Job 26:8 He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.
Job 37:11 Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:
