The Seven Sneezes of Eternal Life 2 Kings 4:8-37 Text 35
I don’t know that this scripture needs a lot of comment, but I did want to mention that Elisha wasn’t ready to give up even when he didn’t see the results he wanted to see.
We see in this scripture that these sneezes were a sign of life. We aren’t for sure what was wrong with the boy some have speculated a heat stroke what ever it was it took his life, he was gone, but the little mother bless her heart wasn’t ready for that yet. I have seen folks at an altar or where ever they make things right with God give these 7 proofs of spiritual life. I hope we can touch on all of them before Camp but we will have to see.
You will find all of these in 1 John. The first one I’d like to speak about is 1 John 2:1-6 text 3
We find a word that is not very well liked today especially in this connotation. Commandments.
Commandment- an order, command, charge, precept, injunction an authoritative prescription:
Notice it doesn’t say the 10 commandments I think that includes and implies all commandments from God. There is a difference between commandment and tradition of man. Look at Mark 7:8
I’ve seen people line people up on the outside but if the inside doesn’t change or if they aren’t keeping the COMMANDMENTS it doesn’t mean anything. It is a proof of life of salvation. Notice that this says we know that we know him if we keep his commandments. Look at how Jesus addressed the rich young ruler when he came to him trying to find eternal life, He brought up the commandments. If they were so important to Jesus shouldn’t they be to us?
The scripture also tells us if you break one you break them all. I use to ponder that and try to figure that out till one day I heard it explained this way. If I give you a hammer and tell you to go over to that window and break me out a triangle piece from the middle. But only break out that, nothing else. What’s going to happen when you start hitting on that glass with that hammer? That’s how we break all of them when we break just one.
What is the greatest commandment? Again we go to scripture. Mat 22:35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
Mat 22:36- 40 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Some More Scriptures that show how important the commandments are.
Joh 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
We aren’t going to go thru all the commandments tonight but a clue is there is a bunch. What I like about grace and the new dispensation is you don’t have to write them out and look at them everyday although that is a good idea he tells us it wouldn’t be tables of stone anymore, but he would write them on our hearts. If it is on the inside they will flow out for out of the heart are the issues of life. Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against God.
