I Will Praise Him Psa. 18:1-3 -
A conference at a Presbyterian church in Omaha. People were given helium filled balloons and told to release them at some point in the service when they felt like expressing the joy in their hearts. Since they were Presbyterians, they weren't free to say "Hallelujah, Praise the Lord." All through the service balloons ascended, but when it was over 1/3 of the balloons were unreleased. Let your balloon go.
Bruce Larson, Luke, p. 43.
I will Praise Him I will Praise Him Praise the Lamb for sinners slain. What is praise? What do you mean when you sing, "I will Praise Him?"
The New Illustrated Webster's Dictionary defines Praise as - verb: 1. To express approval and commendation of; applaud, eulogize. 2. To express adoration of; glorify (God, etc). 2. Thanksgiving for blessings conferred; laudation to God; worship expressed in song. 3. The object, ground, reason, or subject of praise.
Throughout the Psalms runs a steady stream from the pen of David of Praise. He says he will Praise God with all that is within him. 103:1
What is the difference between praise and worship? New Illustrated Webster's Dictionary defines worship as 1.The act or feeling of adoration or homage; the paying of religious reverence, as in prayer, praise, etc. 2. The act or feeling of deference, respect, or honor toward virtue, power, or the like. Another writer said, "It is the response of God's Spirit in us to that Spirit in Him whereby we answer, "Abba Father" ISBE I think we can sum it up this way. Praise is an act of worship. We worship God when we Praise Him. When we lift His name up. For He is worthy to be praised. Some reasons to praise God;
1. Rock
2. Fortress
3. Deliverer
4. Strenght 2x's
5. Buckler
6. Horn of salvation
7. High tower
But mostly because HE IS GOD.
I think we can see we should praise him, We need to praise him with our;
1. Lips. David writes so much about praising God with our lips;
Psa 7:17 I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.
Psa 22:22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
Psa 34:1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Psa 35:28 And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
Psa 40:3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Psa 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.
Psa 51:15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
Psa 63:3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
Psa 67:5 Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.
Psa 57:9 I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations.
A. David showed his devotion or his worship to God with his lips.
1. At church. He wasn't afraid to say "Praise the Lord" in church. A. It was an outcropping of what his heart was doing. The Lips are an avenue to express the feelings of the heart and soul.
2. All day long. He didn't have to be in church to Praise the Lord. How about you? It is a way to express thanksgiving and honor to Jesus. That doens't mean we have to shout across the room some phrase of praise. but we will give God glory for what he does, someway.
2. Love - Our affection the seat of our soul. Our heart.
Psa 9:1 I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
A. I've already mentioned that praise comes from within. We praise God with our Heart before we praise him with our lips.
A young boy from Africa was told about God read to from and then given a Bible. He goes back to his tribe and tells them about God, but not not being able to read the Bible they would set it on a stump and set around it and there they would praise and worship God. Praiseing God with our heart our love.
3. Life. If you love me keep my commandments. If we love God and keep his commandments we praise God with our life. We bring glory to God with our life.
Psa 113:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.
Psa 115:18 But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.
Psa 135:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the name of the LORD; praise him, O ye servants of the LORD.
Psa 150:6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.
Psa 107:8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 5x's
"A body is not crippled 'til its heart has ceased to praise."
Louis Albert Banks tells of an elderly Christian man, a fine singer, who learned that he had cancer of the tongue and that surgery was required. In the hospital after everything was ready for the operation, the man said to the doctor, "Are you sure I will never sing again?" The surgeon found it difficult to answer his question. He simply shook his head no. The patient then asked if he could sit up for a moment. "I've had many good times singing the praises of God," he said. "And now you tell me I can never sing again. I have one song that will be my last. It will be of gratitude and praise to God." There in the doctor's presence the man sang softly the words of Isaac Watts' hymn, "I'll praise my Maker while I've breath,/ And when my voice is lost in death,/ Praise shall employ my nobler power;/ My days of praise shall ne'er be past,/ While life, and thought, and being last,/ Or immortality endures."
Our Daily Bread.
Let's praise God with our lips, our love and our life.
