How Great Thou Art Deut. 3:24
God is great because:
I. He is God – both in his transcendence and immanency
1. TRANSCENDENCE, n. Superior excellence; to rise above - Tozer – God is as above an archangel as he is a catipillar. The difference between a catitpillar and an archangel is finite, they are both created. But The difference between man and God is INFINITE we are created, he the creator.
2. IM'MANENT, a. [L. in and manens, maneo, to abide.] Inherent; intrinsic; internal.- We like to say, “Lo I Am with you always”, and “Where two are three are gathered in his name I will be in the midst” “Exo 33:14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. “Bro. R.E. Carroll put it this way, “Not only is the Lord everywhere present, but He is present with his own in a special way. {The upper room, The all night fishing etc.}
II. He is ALL-POWERFUL, HE CAN DO ANYTHING 23 - 24
1. Begun to show greatness-
A. Show me thy Glory Exodus 33:18-23
B. Show Me the Country Deut. 3:25-27
C. Show Me Thy Strength – Deut 3:1-22
"These two victories gave the Israelites possession of the country on the east of Jordan, from the Arnon to the foot of Hermon. The kingdom of Sihon embraced about 1,500 square miles, while that of Og was more than 3,000 square miles." Easton
2. Is still showing Greatness -
A. Paul, “My grace IS sufficient for thee” 2 Cor. 12:9
“Never turn God's facts into hopes, or prayers, but simply use them as realities, and you will find them powerful as you believe them.” --Prebendary H. W. Webb Peploe
B. Us (Salvation) – If God has done so much in the past, and He hasn’t lost any power, what can He do for us if we will just give ourselves to Him. Recklessly abandon ourselves to HIM.
3. Will continue to show Greatness
Php 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
III. He is GREAT
1. Psalm 104, Bless the Lord, o my soul, O Lord my God, thou art very great. Thou art clothed with honor and majesty. Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment, who stretchest out the heavens as a curtain, who layeth the beam of his foundations in the water, who maketh the clouds his chariots, who walketh upon the wings of the winds, who maketh his angels spirits and his ministers a flaming fire, who laid the foundations of the earth that it should not be removed forever.
