Last Sunday we discussed the Method and Message of Baptism.
The Method and the Message are woven together.
The Method is Immersion and the Message is the Gospel.
This morning we will discuss the Motive (The Reason you are Baptized)
The Motive of Baptism
The Motive of Baptism
Someone You Need to See (Jesus)
Someone You Need to See (Jesus)
You are identified with Jesus when you are baptized
You are identified with Jesus when you are baptized
Baptism shows you as a new man/woman with a new master.
Shows you are not ashamed of Jesus.
In the early church, they didn’t necessarily have a building and walk down the aisle, so the confession of faith was Baptism.
Baptism doesn’t save but shows you are saved.
Baptism pictures what happened when you got saved?
The Wedding Ring does not make me married. I can be married and not wear it. Some wear a ring and are not married. But wearing the ring means I am not ashamed of Tami. I belong to that woman. The ring is a symbol of me belonging to her and I am not ashamed.
Baptism says I belong to Jesus.
Never mistake the symbolism.
I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
You need to get advertised. In a childrens church , a little boy got saved. The Childrens Pastor told him to tell the Pastor. The boy ran and told the Pastor, I got saved and I need to get Advertised!
Baptism says, “Hey, I belong to Christ.”
Something to Say
Something to Say
Baptism commands attention.
It is a silent sermon.
The old person has died and I have given myself to the person who has died for me.
Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life.
Who would not want to communicate this message before friends and family.
Baptism says there is Someone to see, Something to Say, and third Something to do!
Something to Do!
Something to Do!
Jesus commanded your Baptism.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
These are the words of the Lord after His resurrection.
They must be important.
He commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for a few days.
“If you love me, you will keep my commands.
Baptism is not necessary to salvation.
It is necessary to obedience.
Obedience is necessary to joy and fruitfulness in the Christian life.
We often want more from God. We ask God to Give us more! But we fail to do what God has already given us.
For whoever has, more will be given to him, and whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”
Obey what you do understand so that God can reveal what you don’t understand.
Baptism is not necessary to Salvation
There is not enough water to take away your sins.
And if we make Baptism necessary then we take away “Whosoever believes in the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved.”
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.”- Acts 16:31
Baptism is just the symbol and never substitute the emblem for reality.
Conclusion
Conclusion
The Bible teaches that Baptism has a METHOD, MEANING, and, a MOTIVE.
METHOD-Immersion
MEANING- Picture of our identity in Christ and a portrayal of the Gospel message.
MOTIVE- to tell about Jesus and what he has done for us and what he will do for you.
