Federal headship in Adam, and Christ

Txt. Romans 5:12-21

(Explanation) Paul is the author of Romans. He wrote it probably between 55 and 57 A.D. He has shown that justification by faith is necessary and real (1:16-3:31), as well as scriptural in (chapter 4). In chapters 5-8 he demonstrates that it is also effective, fruitful. Paul starts chapter 5 with “therefore” which points back to the previous four chapters.

The key thought here is that when God looks upon the human race, He sees but two men—Adam and Christ. Every human being is either “in Adam” and lost, or “in Christ” and saved; there is no middle ground.[1]

Paul’s point was that security in Christ is even more secure than damnation in Adam.[2]
