Nehemiah 6:1-4

Nehemiah 6:1-4
Notice that there was many attempts by Nehemiah's enemies to stop him from doing the Lord's work.
Nehemiah's dedication and service stand as witnesses of what a true servant of God is to be about.
Satan, and his demons, are always trying to get the people of God to come down from the work, if you do, there are some things that you will have to expect to lose.
There are some great and wonderful things that will be abandoned when you come down from the place God has called you to stand.
Keep doing the work!
All Satan wants to do is keep you from doing what right to do.
Don’t abandon the work!
(v. 3b)
Nehemiah's commission was a "great” commission.
Any work you do for the Lord is a great work!
For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. Psalm 84:10
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
Simon Peter saith unto them, I’m go fishing. They say unto him, We are going with you. They went and got into the ship; and that night they caught nothing… John 21:3
John 6:47-70 47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 48 I am that bread of life. 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. 59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. 60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? 62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, where are we going to go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
God's plans are just too great to stop for the devil's foolishness!
You have to be on your job 24 hours a day!
It’s hard to quit – I tried to quiet!
But I just couldn’t quiet!
Something on the inside of me, keep telling me to go head.
Job’s wife told Job to curse God and die. But Job said, I can’t quiet!
Lot’s wife tried to get him to look back, when she looked back, but Lot keep his eyes towards the hills from which came his help.
Lot said I’m not quieting. And I’m sorry you’re a little salty.
(v. 3a)
Nehemiah's give 100% of himself to the work of the Lord.
To come down, would be a step down.
When we step down from the Lord's work, we are turning our backs away from righteousness and godliness.
Our job before the Lord is to faithfully carry out His commands and to do His work efficiently, joyfully and faithfully.
To step down is to compromise, Israel and the golden calf!
Hold on to what’s right, even if you have to stand alone when the dust settles!
(v. 3b)
Nehemiah had a place of authority and respect among the people.
If he had come down, the work would have stopped, and may not have never been completed.
All Jerusalem was watching their leader and emulating what they saw their leader do.
The people are convinced their work was a great work for the Lord!
Do you realize that we are being watched by our youth, they are very impressionable?
If you step down from the Lord's work, they may stumble.
But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Matthew 18:6
The people outside Jerusalem were looking!
One false move and Nehemiah's credibility would have been destroyed.
1 Thess. 5:22 - Our lives ought to be squeaky clean and spotless before the world!
The danger of a spotted testimony.
IV. We Abandon the Welfare of the Heathen
Jerusalem was known by everybody Jerusalem was the place where God was worshipped.
Nehemiah wanted to rebuild the fallen city so that God could be glorified and the lost could be saved.
To come down off the wall would be forgetting the eternal danger of sin.
When God is worshipped and declared in truth and sincerity, souls will be saved.
If you come down from your high calling, you have abandoned the lost and given them up to Hell.
You and I are the only light some people will ever see.
You must not be dimmed by the world, but you must shine bright.
Conclusion
Our Job is defined.
Refuse to listen to the devil and stay in the battle for the Lord and don't come down for any reason!
Don’t except anything but the prefect will of God.
