The world seems to be falling apart. A pandemic has crippled economies all around the world leaving people living in fear without being able to take care of their basic needs. Millions have died while tens of millions have suffered through the disease. As if that is not enough, we have seen political and social issues turn violent as people struggle to have their voices heard.
Hi, I am Michael Vallandingham, Pastor of Del Norte Baptist Church. I want to invite you to join us for a special sermon series from Isaiah called “Rend the Heavens.”
Many see this chaos and wonder where God is during such times. The great prophet Isaiah experienced this during his lifetime as he experienced the complete destruction of Israel. Everyone who had influence, money and power were taken into captivity to live under the rule of a pagan king who hated them and their God. The Temple and the gates of Jerusalem were destroyed.
During this horrendous time, Isaiah cried out to God. He felt as if God was in heaven and there was a great veil, like found in the Temple, separating them. He longed for God to return his presence to His people. For Isaiah, the silence and absence of God was the greatest of the afflictions going on around him.
God answered Isaiah in chapter 65. God proclaims that he has been with them calling them the entire time. God cried out to them, “Here I am, here I am.” “I spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people…” God had not been distant. They had just not looked to him.
Does God feel distance to you right now? I want you to know that God has not moved. He still loves you and is calling you by name. Come and join us this Sunday during one of our three services or on-line and learn all the ways that God continues to work during these difficult days. We work hard every week to provide a safe place for you to experience the love of Jesus Christ. We look forward to seeing you soon.
