Psalm 142 NASB95
Maskil of David, when he was in the cave. A Prayer. 1 I cry aloud with my voice to the Lord; I make supplication with my voice to the Lord. 2 I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare my trouble before Him. 3 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, You knew my path. In the way where I walk They have hidden a trap for me. 4 Look to the right and see; For there is no one who regards me; There is no escape for me; No one cares for my soul. 5 I cried out to You, O Lord; I said, “You are my refuge, My portion in the land of the living. 6 “Give heed to my cry, For I am brought very low; Deliver me from my persecutors, For they are too strong for me. 7 “Bring my soul out of prison, So that I may give thanks to Your name; The righteous will surround me, For You will deal bountifully with me.”
This Psalms is called a Maschil—a psalm of instruction David write it from the lesson that he learned in a cave.
David was either in the cave of Adullam or the cave of Engedi or some lowly place hiding from Saul.
I would like to raise a case that it is probably in the cave of Engedi rather than Adullam. Because in Engedi Saul and his army laid snare for him and completely surrounded him whereby there was no way of escape and no one to be his refuge but God.
Where in Adullam 300 man where coming to him and there was no army after him.
It is very interesting the circumstances that led up to Engedi.
By 1 Samuel 16 the lord was fed up with a brother named Saul.
God told him
1 Samuel 15:3 NASB95
3 ‘Now go and strike Amalek and utterly destroy all that he has, and do not spare him; but put to death both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’ ”
because you can’t play with the devil.
Don’t let the devil ride....
utterly destroy him.
Saul decided to disobedient to God Command and live Agag the king alive and spare the best sheep, oxen, fatling lamb and all that was good.
See when God tell you to do something He is looking for obedience.
(Touch our neighbor and ask them can you be obedient)
1 Samuel 15:22 NASB95
22 Samuel said, “Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.
because of Saul’s disobedient God was going to take his kingdom.
So the sent the a man name Samuel to the house of a man Jesse to anoint the new king over Israel out over Jesse seven sons.
And when he went down to Jessie’s house first came E-li-ab and this brother was a good looking brother in shape, handsome, strong, he probably look something like me.
But God Said
1 Samuel 16:7 NASB95
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Man Looketh at the outward appearance but God Looks at the LEB.
God don’t care what you look like how well you can preach how good you sing. God is looking and your Heart.
There are plenty of people in the body of Christ that have talent. But God is looking for the ones that have Character.
So what you can quote scripture do you have the heart to make the thing you quote have power?
God is looking at the heart.
So A-bin-a-dad pass by Samuel and Sham-ma pass too. and Samuel said God has not chosen these
So Jesse told 7 other sons pass by Samuel and he said nope. He had to ask Jesse is this all you got because God has not chosen any of these.
(is there any body in this house that has a heart after God)
Jesse said there is one more out tending to the sheep doing.
David was not even considered by his father.
God Said it don’t matter it man consider me God had already chosen me before the foundations of the world.
And God is looking for somebody who has the heart he is look for a church who has the heart
Do you have the heart? God looks at the heart.
The devil ain’t gonna come for your gifts he gonna come for your Character.
He is looking for some who will stand up to the giant and say who is this uncircumcised Philistine talk bad about my God.
That would cut off the giant’s head carry it around the city to show the people how to get a head in life.
David had the heart.
Even when the woman started to sing about Saul killing his 1000's but David his 10,000's. David didn’t get a big head.
Even throw would that moment on Saul wanted to kill David.
David still Endured Like the preacher Said last week As a good soldier.
David still went on blessing good and being obedient to his commends even in spite of Saul trying to kill.
David had the Heart to Endure
15 years passed between the time that David was anointed until he was finally appointed King.
If God has Promised you something in your own life it Don’t matter how long ago it was keep standing on that with he has said.
Because he is not a man that he should lie or the son of man that he would have to repent. (If he said that.............................................................)
Saul came after David Trying to kill God Purpose. Just like he is trying to with this church. But God Say if you faint not.
Saul try to kill David in the cave of Adullam but there was 300 hundred man that came to his rescue and God Delivered him out of Adullam
In Engeti he was surround by Saul's men. They block the cave’s entrance making the cave a prison.
No man cared for David’s soul because every man was worried about them own self. He was totally overwhelmed with his problem.
Has you ever been overwhelmed that you been backed into a corner by your situation.
Your Finances back you into a corner you wanted to give but you cant give because you don’t have any thing to give. Your family back you into a corner the Kids, the Wife, the Momma.
As a church Body to meet or not to meet.
Stress upon you job
Sicknesses in your body
David said I was brought really low.
Have you have been driven to your knees.
When we allow yourself to be at your weakest that when God Strength can be made perfect in us.
David on his knees begin to cry out to God.
Psalm 142:1 KJV 1900
1 I cried unto the Lord with my voice; With my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication.
And when you started to Cry in the cave the eco of the cave made to cave cry back(help-help-help)
And sometime you have to hear your own cry.
I Remember the children of Israel after 40 year in the wilderness. when they had reach Jericho.
God said to march around the walls silent for 6 days 1 time every day. But on the 7th day to march around 7 time and after the 7th time I want you to left up a shout and your wall will come down.
I remember reading about a blind man sitting by the roadside begging. And when he heard Jesus walk by he cry out "Lord Help me." and the lord healed him
There was a Syrophenician woman that her daughter was vexed with a devil and she cried unto the lord "have mercy on me." and the lord healed her daughter that very hour.
Some of us are not getting the victor because we are not saying any thing.
God says USE YOUR VOISE BECAUSE IT IS YOUR WEAPON.
David lifted up his voice in the cave of En-git-i and God worked a Miracle.
God delivered David from Saul hands and Delivered Saul into David hand.
Stand to your feet and with you voice start declaring the thing that be not as though they were.
