Acts 19:2 NIV
and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Paul talking to some disciples
they had some knowledge of Jesus
they were not demonstrating the fullness of a Christian walk
it was obvious to Paul that they were lacking the dynamic work of the Spirit in their daily walk
these disciples said that they only received John’s baptism
Acts 19:4–5 NIV
Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

these people had a form of discipleship but no power
let us be people of power - Holy Spirit power
we can no longer rely on our church name or our good works -
individually and together we must operate in the power of the Holy Spirit

When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
the disciples became true disciples by believing in Jesus
they became powerful disciples when the Holy Spirit came upon them
this is an empowerment by the Holy Spirit
the disciples gave control over to the Holy Spirit
this is where we are at today
