Move 4- Let’s share our stories so we learn to center our lives around this Rabbi.
First Sentence- Who bears the responsibility for our growth?
First Sentence- Who bears the responsibility for our growth?
They all have identities or belong to a tribe that shapes how they spend money, what they are wiling to look like in public, how they spend their time.
What does it risk if they fail to hear from me?
What does it risk if they fail to hear from me?
So many of us have been frustrated that we’re not changing.
Disciple is a noun not a verb. If we don’t see that disciple is central to our identity the Jesus Movement becomes something we add to our lives or a burden.
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. 21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them,
1 Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. 2 I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. 3 For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother. 4 Then he taught me, and he said to me, “Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.
14 He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
What am I asking them to do?
What am I asking them to do?
The Father is putting all the onus for growth on this young man.
Seek (1-9)
Prioritize (10-19)
Stay the Course (20-27)
If we were to just stop there it would be hard.

Be with our Rabbi
Attention is the first step of devotion
Start small
When you get home put it on DND and leave it with your keys
When you finish a great podcast send it to a friend and tell them it made you think of them.
Instead of posting about someone you disagree with, love someone you disagree with
When you are riled up by someone’s stupid political post
write a response on a sticky note and sleep on it
Become like Jesus.
If we want to live a life like Jesus we need to adapt the lifestyle of Jesus.
Find a mentor who’s not your age
Old people are stuck in their ways and young people are naive
Do what Jesus did.
avoid the zap experience
Find a good church
Christ-likeness is not natural - I was at Compass for 10 years and boom.
Growth takes effort
Grace is not opposed to effort it is opposed to earning.
Come to church, our church is really good and you’ll become like Jesus.
Why Won’t they do it?
Why Won’t they do it?
Feels like one more thing
Too many false starts.
Growth requires we leave our comfort zones
What do I have to learn from someone who is younger/older than me?

If you’re not dead, he’s not done.
Last Sentence- Rabbi’s were known for going above and beyond so that their disciples would learn to love Torah. Our Rabbi died for us so we would learn to love Torah. If you’re not dead he’s not done.
