The writer of Hebrews in our 1st reading tells the 1st century Jews to be on guard while the promise of entering into God’s Rest remains. He tells them to be united in the faith with those who listened and believed in God’s word and entered his rest. For us it would be to be united in the faith with of the One Holy Catholic and Apostles Church the faith of our fathers handed down to us by the saints who have entered into God’s rest.
We go on guard when our livelihoods, and God given freedoms are threatened, physically and spiritually. Many feel a great deal, unrest and division, scared and confused these days, they are on guard, with their faiths being tested praying and fasting for God’s truth, mercy and justice, and see nothing happening, seemingly things getting worse.
In the Gospel Jesus preaches the Word to the crowd gathered at his door and heals the paralytic saying your sins are forgiven pick up your mat and go. My friends, brother and sisters, don’t let you guards down, unite yourselves in the faith handed down to us by the apostles and saints, remain in Jesus’ Words, confess you sins, and rest assured God will answer the payers of his people and deliver them, because Jesus has promised he will never leave us nor forsake us, he is with us until the end of the time, and has said blessed are those who don’t see yet but believe. +
