Eagerness and Dedication (Acts 17:10-15)
The Bereans received the word with all eagerness and dedicated themselves to the daily examination of scripture.
1. Cultural and Geographical Background
a. Berea was 36 mil (58km) from Thessalonica
b. Paul and his companions (Silas and Timothy) went from Thessalonica to Berea, where they were received positively. The Jews of Thessalonica, however, came and stirred up the people.
2. What was Paul’s custom when arriving to a new location?
Verse 10…went into the Jewish synagogue.
If our minds are not prepared to receive the Word of God, we will not receive the true Word of God.
Paul has gone to the Jews in Thessalonica, as was his custom, into they synagogue and reasoned with them.
Here, the word reasoned means to dialogue.
What was Paul reasoning or dialoguing with them?
Acts 17:3…explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise form the dead saying…This Jesus, whom I proclaim (preach) to you, is the Christ.
