Tower of Babel

I. The Mastermind

A. Nimrod

Nimrod comes from the Hebrew word marad, meaning rebel.
It is possible that Nimrod wasn’t actually his name but rather what he was called.
A person that is often written about that fits his description is Gilgamesh.
Jewish teaching is that Nimrod ruled over the whole earth and even controlled the animal kingdom. It is said that he wore a garment of Adams that was made from snake skin.

B. Gilgamesh

The Gilgamesh epic is the oldest story ever found and was written on stone tablets. It was found in a temple in Ninevah in Babylon. The Epic says that Nimrod was 2/3 god 1/3 man.
He stated that his desire was to avenge the death of his ancestors that were killed in the flood and to kill YHWH.
According to Josephus, Nimord said that he desired to build the tower of Babel so that God could not kill him with another flood.
In the Gilgemesh Epic, Gilgamesh states that he had killed God and declared himself the supreme ruler of the World.

II. The Motive

A. To rise above the reach of God.

B. To reach the status of God.

Archeologist and archeologist say that the top of the tower was a temple.

III. The Mastery

The Bible tells us that God came down to see this town and tower and that God said He must intervene or they would succeed in their efforts. This doesn’t mean that they would reach his status but rather that they would build a tower higher than the mountains.

A. They unified in work

B. They unified in purpose

IV. The Mumbling

God divided there language to confuse them.

A. He divided their language.

B. He may have divided the land.

We find that in the day of Pegleg the continents shifted.
This would have happened during the lifetime of Nimrod. It could be that this was part of the division that God gave.
We can also see that their greatest fear was to be scattered around the world so this may have been part of their punishment.

V. The Modern day application.

We find that this all happened in Babylon and Revelation teaches of the Mystery Babylon. Is it possible that the revived spirit of Nimrod is the Antichrist and that mystery Babylon is the Caliphate of Islam. These would align with this Biblical account. However, Revelation teaches that the new Babylon will be a mystery
