HOOK

DO NOT FORGET TO UNMUTE
It’s the 13th day of January— WEDNESDAY
Yesterday right here at “The Message” we started with chapter 20— it started with the events that occured when Paul set out for Macedonia after the riot in Ephesus— God changed the route of Paul using the plot by some Jews against him— he was gonna sail straight back to Syria but because of the plot agains him— he went back through Macedonia where the church he planted was located— the focus of this journey of Paul was to strengthen the church he planted during his first and second missionary journey— from this we learned:
WE SHOULD STRENGTHEN OUR HOME CHURCHES
WE SHALL CELEBRATE OUR FREEDOM AND HARVEST
It can be remembered from yesterday that Paul sent his companions ahead to Troas where him and Luke catch up with them after few days— they stayed in Troas for seven days and during that stay Paul spoke to the people and on their last night in Troas— Paul kept talking until midnight when a young man named Eutychus fell asleep listening and fell through the window and died— Let’s see what we can get out of this section of chapter 20— open your Bible to Acts 20:7-12
When studying the Bible, look for words that defines the CHARACTER of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit— keep an eye on COMMANDS to obey— good EXAMPLES to follow, and bad examples to avoid— PROMISES that you could claim— sins to CONFESS— CHALLENGES you encountered— and ENCOURAGEMENT to keep you going
READ ACTS 20:7-12

BOOK

Acts 20:7–12 NIV
7 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. 8 There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. 9 Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. 10 Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!” 11 Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. 12 The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.
WHAT: Paul miraculously raised Eutychus from the dead
WHERE: Troas [Province of Asia]
WHEN: Third missionary journey of Paul— enroute back to Jerusalem
WHO: Paul, Luke, Disciples, Sopater [son of Phrrhus from Berea], Aristarchus and Secundus [from Thessalonica], Gaius [from Derbe], Timothy, Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia, People of Troas and Eutychus
WHY: Another display of God’s power that works through Apostle Paul

LOOK

BECAUSE HE INTENDED TO LEAVE THE NEXT DAY, KEPT ON TALKING UNTIL MIDNIGHT
First day of the week— which means Sunday night— that’s their seventh day in Troas— a young man named Eutychus fell asleep while seated in a window— slept too deep that he fell off the window— and it was 3-story high— and he died
HE FELL TO THE GROUND FROM THE THIRD STORY AND WAS PICKED UP DEAD
Paul went down, and he put his arms around him and said...
DON’T BE ALARMED, HE SAID, HE’S ALIVE!
And then they went back upstairs and broke bread— it could be that they did the communion and/or shared a meal together
The raising Eutychus reminds us of the way Elijah restored to life the son of the widow of Zarepath [1 Kings 17:21]— and Elisha revived the son of the Shunammite woman [2 Kings 4:34]
Peter also raised Dorcas to life [Acts 9:40-42]
Such things happen as a sign of God’s resurrection power— but not often— Even Jesus raised only 3 people from death— the daughter of Jairus, the widow of Nain’s son and Lazarus
Now, what we can learn from today’s short devotional study is quite funny— but funny it may be— it’s a lesson that we should learn from— let me put it in a sentence that we will always remember to live by…
