· Prayer for unity
Lord, we pray for our nation in the midst of our political struggles. We pray for our government and its leaders, at all levels – those who will be stepping into leadership and those stepping down who have held those positions.
We pray for Your Spirit to be present with wisdom and guidance in, through, and above all things. We pray for the humility of Jesus; the strength to be forgiving; the patience to be understanding; and the endurance to accept the consequences of the November elections.
May we put our trust in the power of good to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome hatred. All Americans have a common national imagination of a country with justice and liberty for all. But many forget that we are one nation under God and indivisible.
Help us then to devote our lives, thoughts, opinions, social media posts, and energy to the task of making peace. As Matthew 5:9 says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (not Republicans, not Democrats, Libertarians, not independents but children or God.”
Pray also for the sick…and the service.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
