Scripture overview:
Scripture overview:
This passage catches Jesus and his disciples on the way to Jeruselem as He is preparing for the cruxifixion.
With that in mind and also knowing that Jesus was aware of everything that is about to happen, keep in mind the outcome of this miracle.
It’s worth noting that the object of praise in this passage is what the lepers wanted most.

On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

As we unpack this passage, we see 3 things that we should take note of:
1. Brokenness is not PICKY (vv. 11-13)
1. Brokenness is not PICKY (vv. 11-13)
As we look back on the first 2 verses of this passage, we see that these men are hurting and lonly because of the sickness that has fallen over them.
But if there is on the bald head or the bald forehead a reddish-white diseased area, it is a leprous disease breaking out on his bald head or his bald forehead. Then the priest shall examine him, and if the diseased swelling is reddish-white on his bald head or on his bald forehead, like the appearance of leprous disease in the skin of the body, he is a leprous man, he is unclean. The priest must pronounce him unclean; his disease is on his head.
“The leprous person who has the disease shall wear torn clothes and let the hair of his head hang loose, and he shall cover his upper lip and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean.’ He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease. He is unclean. He shall live alone. His dwelling shall be outside the camp.
“When there is a case of leprous disease in a garment, whether a woolen or a linen garment, in warp or woof of linen or wool, or in a skin or in anything made of skin, if the disease is greenish or reddish in the garment, or in the skin or in the warp or the woof or in any article made of skin, it is a case of leprous disease, and it shall be shown to the priest.
The jist of what I am getting at is that having leporacy we incredibly hard not only from a medical standpoint, but also an emotional and psycolocical standpoint. It was textbook isolatian.
So what are you getting at?
Brokenness isn’t picky. It doesn’t care about your grades, your ability, or how much money you come from.
You might not have leporacy today, but you do have depression or anxiety.
These men didn’t go out one day and think, “Man, you know what would be great? A flesh eating disease!”
Just like you don’t wake up in the morning and say, “I think I want get made fun of today or I want my parents to get divorces”
We walk through brokenness and hurt in life. That’s a fact, but praise be to God that you don’t have to live there!
When we come face to face with Jesus and completely trust Him, and allow him to pull us out of our misery into His mercy
he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
2. Idols are PROMINENT (v. 14-15)
2. Idols are PROMINENT (v. 14-15)
Cody this passage does’t say anything about idols, what are you talking about?
Well..... read with me. What was the first thing that the 10 did after meeting with Jesus? They went into town to find the priests.
Well, Jesus told them to do it, so what’s the big deal?
These men desired to have a “normal” life so bad, that we they were really healed, 9 of them ran to the person who could give it to them, while only 1 returned to worship the Man who could give so much more than a normal life.
The idol was acceptence of people.
I used to pray to God that he would help me pass a test that I neve studied for or help me out of a situation that I got myself in to and would never turn around and give him Glory because of it!
God isn’t just a quick fix, He is the total solution.
Did you know that the Bible says that God is jealous for you?
(for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),
The idols of this world offer temporary fulfullment, but you have access to something way better!
3. Salvation is PERMINENT (vv. 16-19)
3. Salvation is PERMINENT (vv. 16-19)
The man who returned to Jesus got the picture, Jesus could do more in a moment than a priest could in a lifetime and that is still true today.
Salvation isn’t a temporary fix, it is a perminent solution to this problem called Sin!
Friends, hear it from me, what Jesus has to offer is so much better than anything the world has for you.
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
