Revelation 5:1–4 NKJV
And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it.
What is this book? The title deed to the earth
Sold property had a redemption clause - providing you could meet the requirements 2 deeds - 1 sealed 1 open (Property deed)
Day of redemption the right to redeem would be proved by the open deed, the closed seals would be broken and the terms of redemption read
If you could meet the terms you could redeem the property
Jer said to surrender 32 after 70 years they would be back
Jeremiah 32:6–7 NKJV
And Jeremiah said, “The word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you, saying, “Buy my field which is in Anathoth, for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.” ’
Word of the Lord - redeem your uncles property - if you can’t your relative can
Jeremiah buys the field - to show his faith in god’s promise, he redeemed the field - deeds buried
Jeremiah 32:9–12 NKJV
So I bought the field from Hanamel, the son of my uncle who was in Anathoth, and weighed out to him the money—seventeen shekels of silver. And I signed the deed and sealed it, took witnesses, and weighed the money on the scales. So I took the purchase deed, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open; and I gave the purchase deed to Baruch the son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and in the presence of the witnesses who signed the purchase deed, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the prison.
We see here the answer to the question “Who is Worthy?” - The one who has the right to redeem the property!
Scroll with 7 seals
Originally given to man - have dominion but Adam gave it to Satan
The world is currently under Satan’s management - He blinded the eyes of the people
Jesus - called him the “Prince of the world”
Jesus mission - to redeem the world - Satan’s boast - the whole world is mine! I can give to whomever!
Luke 19:10 NKJV
for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
You are now an alien of the world! Man is joined to Satan’s rebellion
Living after the flesh vs living after their spirit
What was the price…His blood shed on the cross
1 Peter 1:18–19 NKJV
knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
Adam died for his own sin…Jesus died for sin’s of others!
The Kingdom of heaven - treasure in a field
The treasure is His church!
In heaven it was the appointed time of redemption
If you could not meet the demand you lost it forever! That is why John is weeping
The redemption period is 7 years 6 mil ago man was sold into sin 4000 BC - The earth is up for redemption
“Who is worthy to open this scroll? No man is found worthy
No man has the capacity to redeem the world let alone himself!
John can’t bear the thought that the world will be forever under Satan!
Wept - convulsed - bemoaned, Totally overcome with emotion, in this case grief!
A moment - It is the expression of the reality of the knowledge of God and the insight into the consequences of earlier ungodliness knowing the consequences of future eternal seperation from God!
Revelation 5:5 NKJV
But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”
We clarified this last week week with the promise to David that his linage would sit eternal on the throne!
I love it “has prevailed” - Victorious - Physically and legally! To win or defeat; A demonstrated action of overthrowing the opposing force!
Revelation 5:6–7 NKJV
And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.
What a great heavenly vision
Elders - Lion John-Lamb (slaughtered) Your first view in heaven might be shocking to see the marks of the suffering of Jesus Christ
Isa 52&53 Looked upon him astonished
Revelation 5:8 NKJV
Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
Priest into the Holy Place tabernacle with a golden bowl with incense taking a burning coal from the alter of sacrifice causing smoke to rise he would go into the Holy Place - it representing the prayers of the people - sweet incense rising to God
Our redemption is not complete - Rom 8 we and all creation wait for redemption
The price is paid but the redemption has not taken place
The HS is given for the downpayment - Eph until the redemption
Earnest - the intention to act!
Prayers of the saints - the time is now - They Kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven!
The Elders then begin to sing a song -
Revelation 5:9 NKJV
And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
Who can sing this song? For you have redeemed us! The Church Every tongue, people and nation! Not Israel, Not angles but the church finally one in Christ
Revelation 5:10 NKJV
And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.”
We discussed this in previous lessons, we will reign with Him
If the tribulation begins in Chapter 6 and the church is in heaven then how can it be there during the tribulation period?
Revelation 5:11 NKJV
Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands,
1 Hundred Million
Revelation 5:12 NKJV
saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”
the Chorus is joined by the angles
Revelation 5:13–14 NKJV
And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: “Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!” Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.
Church, do not be fooled by the deception of the enemy! The opening words for the book of Revelation:
Revelation 1:3 NKJV
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.
We have been given every reason to rise above the current situation ravaging the earth!
Today you should stand strong and empowered by the victory of the cross as we are shown the future fulfilment of everything we are waiting for!
