Our study of John the baptizer has given us our 2021 theme as a church family: He must increase! John also became an example for us to follow, when it comes to his identity, purpose, and focus. What is our identity, purpose, and focus? What would Jesus say for us at the time of our death if He were to give our eulogy?

“EULOGY FOR A GREAT MAN”

Luke 7:18-28

  • John, the baptizer has given to us our 2021 theme, as a church family:

“HE MUST INCREASE!”

He has also become an example for us to follow:

  • Identity
  • Purpose
  • Focus

1.) JOHN’S IMPRISONMENT. Matthew 11:1-2; 14:3-5; 4:12-13

2.) JOHN’S QUESTION. Luke 7:18-20

  • “Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?”

3.) JESUS’ ANSWER. Luke 7:21-23 | Isaiah 61:1-3 | Isaiah 35:3-6 | Luke 4:18-19

4.) JESUS’ EULOGY. Luke 7:24-28

  • No one greater than John
  • The “bridge” prophet
  • The least in the Kingdom is greater Hebrews 11:39-40 | 1 Peter 1:10-12 | John 14:12; 16:7

5.) JOHN’S DEATH. Matthew 14:6-13

Lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime.

And departing, leave behind us footprints in the sand of time.
