Genesis 50:15-21

Introduction

In this last recorded conversation between Joseph and his brothers we see a beautiful picture of God’s grace at work.  It takes no imagination to see the obvious parallels between us and the brothers and Joseph and our Savior.

1A.      The Crises Conviction Brings (50:15-18)

John 16:8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

1B.      A recognition of the seriousness of our sin (50:15; Luke 15:17)

Luke 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying,  "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!"

Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2B.      A desire for forgiveness of our sins (50:16-17; Luke 15:18-19)

Psalm 38:18 For I will declare my iniquity; I will be in anguish over my sin.

Psalm 51:2-3 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.  3 For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me.

3B.      A demonstration of true repentance (50:18; Luke 15:20a)

Acts 26:20  …they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.

2A.      The Grace that God Extends (50:19-21)

1B.      God’s willingness to receive us (50:19; Luke 15:20b)

Isaiah 65:2 I have stretched out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, Who walk in a way that is not good, According to their own thoughts;

Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

John 6:37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.

2B.      God’s wonderful forgiveness realized (50:20-21; Luke 15:22-24)

God forgiveness brings life (50:20)

John 11:26  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?

God forgiveness removes fear (50:21)

1 John 4:17-19 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.  18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment.  But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.  19 We love Him because He first loved us.
