@ILL TITLE = CHRIST DIED TO SAVE SINNERS
@ILL TEXT = Here's how Thomas Bilney, an Englishman who died a martyr's death in 1531, described his salvation experience: "My soul was sick and I longed for peace, but nowhere could I find it . . . But at last I heard of Jesus Christ. It was then, when first the New Testament was set forth by Erasmus, that the light came. I bought the book, being drawn by the Latin rather than by the Word of God, for at that time I knew not what 'the Word of God' meant. On my first reading I chanced upon these words, 'This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.' This one sentence through God's inward working did so light up my poor bruised spirit that the very bones within me leaped for joy and gladness. It was as if, after a long dark night, day had suddenly broke."

@SCRIPTURE = JOH 16:8<R>When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:

@ILL TITLE = GUILTY!
@ILL TEXT = An article cited an incident related by Dr. Karl Menninger of a man standing on a busy corner in the Chicago Loop. Said Menninger, "As people hurried by, he would point to one and then another and intone loudly the single word, 'Guilty!' Then, without a change of expression, he would assume a stiff stance for a few minutes and do the same thing again. One to whom he pointed turned to a companion and said, 'But how did he know?'

@ILL TITLE = WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS
@ILL TEXT = A man who was deeply troubled by his sins was having a vivid dream in which he saw Jesus being savagely whipped by a soldier. As the cruel scourge came down upon Christ's back, the onlooker shuddered, for the terrible cords left ugly, gaping wounds upon His bleeding, swollen body. When the one wielding the lash raised his arm to strike the Lord again, the man rushed forward to stop him. As he did, the soldier turned and the dreamer was startled to see his own face! He awoke in a cold sweat, conscious that his sin had inflicted this grievous punishment upon the Savior. As he thought of Christ's suffering and the terrible agony He endured on the cross, he remembered these words in Isaiah 53:5, "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed." Suddenly the light of Heaven broke upon his darkened soul as he realized that sinners like himself could go free because of what the Savior did at Calvary. At that moment he trusted the Lord, and his troubled heart found peace.
@LEVEL TWO = 2B. Must Believe by Faith
@LEVEL THREE = If you ask Jesus to save you He will
@SCRIPTURE = JOH 3:16<R>"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

@ILL TITLE = SAFE TO SERVE
@ILL TEXT = During the first part of the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, no safety devices were used, and 23 men fell to their deaths. For the last part of the project, however, a large net which cost $100,000 was employed. At least 10 men fell into it and were saved. But an interesting sidelight is the fact that 25 percent more work was accomplished when the men were assured of their safety!

@ILL TITLE = HE SAID IT!
@ILL TEXT = The French emperor Napoleon was one day reviewing his troops when his horse bolted out of control. He was in danger of being hurled to the ground, so a young private leaped from the ranks and quickly calmed the animal. "Thank you, Captain," said Napoleon ‑ thus bestowing upon the private an instant promotion. Smiling proudly, the soldier inquired, "Of what regiment, sir?" "Of my guards," replied Napoleon as he dashed down the lines. Immediately assuming his new rank, the private‑turned‑captain walked over to join a group of staff officers. "What is this insolent fellow doing here?" remarked one of them. "I am a captain of the guards," the young man replied. "You rascal, you're just a private. What makes you think you're a captain?" At that, the young man pointed to the emperor and confidently responded, "He said it!" "I beg your pardon, Captain," the officer answered politely, "I was not aware of your promotion." That young soldier did not feel like a captain, nor did he wear the insignia of a captain. All he had was the word of Napoleon.
