In June of 1961 he married Barbara A. Bauer. They had four children. They divorced in January 1978. On June 4, 1982 he married Linda A. (Stuckey) Johnson in Larned, KS., she survives.
He was a lifetime resident of Burdett, KS. except while serving in the Navy. Upon retirement in 1980 he worked briefly at Cross Manufacturing, Lewis, KS. and then as a drug/alcohol counselor at Sunrise House in Larned, KS. He loved spending time with his family and friends, having afternoon coffee at Golden Valley CO-OP, driving trips with his son-in-law, lake trips, game nights, puzzles, golf, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and happily awaiting the arrival of the newest in March and known by family and friends as “The Old Sailor”.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Thomas Seltmann.
He liked golf
took forever to make take a shot…
Tracy had a good impression
Stories of him in the cafe
he would come in and begin to sing a hymn if he saw me in there
most of the time he got the words wrong, but he sang them out
there was always laughter
he would make fun of my hair
Family stories…
he would act like he didn’t know how to do something, until you were doing it then he knew you were probably doing it wrong and would tell you how to do it
he would do that with board games, not know how to play, yet somehow win
he knew all the truck stops that there were, the good and the bad
the ones he wanted to stop at, even if they were not there anymore and make you drive around for a little bit knowing that is where it was
He cared for people
he loved his family no doubt, but he loved others as well
he never met a stranger, or at least they were not a stranger for long
most recent experience I had with his love for people were gift cards that the legion wanted to give out

Message - Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

Introduction
Explain what Ecclesiastes is…
a book of poetry written by King Solomon
he begins his writings talking about how everything under the son is pointless… without God
Ecclesiastes 3:1–4 CSB
1 There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven: 2 a time to give birth and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to uproot; 3 a time to kill and a time to heal; a time to tear down and a time to build; 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance;
I find this passage fits Tony’s life in a sense
he had a time in the Navy
he had time as a trucker
he had his time in retirement
one that I think would be safe to say was his families best time with him
There is a time for every purpose under heaven
we all can testify that this is true we have seen it in our lives,
everyone that I know, has been born
we know that we go through different seasons in our life
time that we celebrate
mile stones in a child’s life, graduations, weddings, kids and grandkids!
time that we plant and a time to harvest
there are times to mourn
thankfully, during those times we have an awesome God who does not leave us
that is there to comfort us and guide us through those times
there is a time to die
This was not the desire of God
God created a world that was perfect
perfect in its creation
perfect in its sustainability
perfect in his relationship with people
Sin brought a curse to the world
the ground is cursed, we now have to work by the sweat of our brow
work is hard, tedious and tiring
because of sin, this earth will not last forever
Paul writes to the Romans that the earth cries out to be be renewed
we see droughts and floods, tornadoes and hurricanes, earth quakes and tsunamis
but one day it will be made new
sin separated people from God
the perfect relationship that God had with Adam and Eve was fractured when they chose to listen to Satan, when they wanted to be like God and chose to eat of the tree that God commanded them not to eat
It will not always be this way
the poem can be depressing if we look at it as if there is nothing else to life
if we stop in verse four, or even at the end of the poem in verse nine, we can feel as if there is no hope to this life
but the writer does not intend for us to leave it feeling this way
Ecclesiastes 3:14 CSB
14 I know that everything God does will last forever; there is no adding to it or taking from it. God works so that people will be in awe of him.
for us, there may be seasons to life but what God does for us lasts forever, for eternity
God promises that one day, there will be a new heaven and a new earth
not one tormented and burdened because of the curse of sin
one where there will be no more pain, no more sorrow and no more of these seasons of life that we have grown a custom to.
one where we will be his people and he will be our God
This is possible because God has made a way for us to regain that relationship.
God in his perfect timing came to this world to live a perfect life, and die a sinners death so that the people created in his image might regain that perfect relationship with him
PRAYER!
