Luke Week - 2

Luke 1:26–28 ESV
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”
Luke 1:29–32 ESV
But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,
Luke 1:33–35 ESV
and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.
Luke 1:36–38 ESV
And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
“For nothing will be impossible with God.”
Remember Elizabeth was
1) In her old age 2) Barren
God is still the God of the impossible!
Verse 30 tells us that Mary found “Favor with God.”
Favor: Grace/Goodwill
Verse 38 tells us Mary said “I am the servant of the Lord”
Favor - Servant
“Let it be to me according to your word”
Let your will be done…
According to your word
Luke 1:39–41 ESV
In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
A Picture of Salvation
“And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.”
Heard…
Ephesians 1:13 ESV
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
Ephesians 2:8 ESV
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Romans 10:17 ESV
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Luke 1:42–44 ESV
and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.
Luke 1:45 ESV
And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”
When she will filled she spoke....
Blessed are you among women
Blessed is the fruit of your womb
Blessed is she who believed...
I Still Believe!!!!!!!!!
There will be a fulfillment of what God has spoken!
Mary’s Hymn of Praise
Luke 1:46–47 ESV
And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
‘soul’ refers to the aspect of thinking, while ‘spirit’ refers to the aspect of willing [TG]. Soul refers to the immaterial part of a person that animates the body, while spirit refers to the same immaterial part as it is directed towards God and is capable of receiving impressions from him [Lns]. Soul is ‘the essence of life in terms of thinking, willing, and feeling’ [LN (26.4)] and spirit is ‘the non-material, psychological faculty which is potentially sensitive and responsive to God’ [LN (26.9)].
My Soul - Mind / Will / Emotions
Magnifies: to cause something to be held in greater esteem (with oneself or others); conceived of as physically enlarging it.
My Spirit -
Conscience - an inner feeling or voice viewed as acting as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one's behavior.
Intuition - the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.
Communion - the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, especially when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level.
Luke 1:48–51 ESV
for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
“For He who is mighty has done great things for me”
Can I get a witness
“He has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts”
God has repeatedly punished arrogant people by dispersing them in all directions [NTC].
This gives the picture of an opposing army being scattered
Luke 1:52–55 ESV
he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
What A Mighty God!!!
When I think of the goodness of Jesus......
I have a song a praise.....
