Tonight we continue our study over the whole Armor of God found. In Paul’s writings to the churches there are certain things that he tells Christians that they must put off meaning they should stop doing these things and then there are other things that he encourages Christians to put on.
In Ephesians 6:10-20 the apostle Paul tells Christians one thing that they should put on is the whole armor of God so that we will be properly equipped to stand up to the devil and his evil schemes.
Thus far in our study we have seen that we as Christians must put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of Righteousness and tonight we are going to see what type of shoes we must put on in order to stand up to the devil.
As we talked about two weeks ago many people believe that the armor of God is directly tied to the Roman Solder’s armor. This very well may be the case but it is also possible that Paul’s description of the Armor of God was drawn from his background and understanding of the OT and the language that is used to describe God’s armor.
No matter where Paul was drawing his inspiration from the understanding that these pieces of armor are vital to the Christians in their battle with Satan remains the same.
I only bring this up this evening because I believe the imagery of our next piece of armor is best understood when we examine the similarities between the language used to describe tonight's piece of Armor to the language used very similarly in the Old Testament.
