Scripture Reading
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
In difficult times such as these it can be difficult to find comfort. It is normal to experience sadness, frustration, confusion, or even the sense that it is all just a bad dream. However, God’s Word offers us hope & understanding.
A Psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
This afternoon we gather together to honor the life of Lisa Marlene Federline. I will ask that you pray with me.
Prayer
Almighty Father God, I come before you this afternoon to pray for those who are saddened & are mourning, for Effie and for Lisa’s children, for siblings, for grandchildren, for friends and for neighbours. Father, I ask that you are gentle with them in their grief. Show them the depths of your love, provide them with the hope of the kingdom of Heaven. Spare them of any feeling of any guilt and despair. Father help them be dependent & reliant upon you. It’s in Jesus’s Holy name I pray these things - AMEN.
Song
At this time Kayla has a song she would like to share.
Sermon
Each person’s life is like a book. This book is filled with many chapters and Lisa’s is no different. No doubt many if not all of us had the privilege of making it onto the pages of Lisa’s life. You may not have been the focal point of a chapter, or occupied many pages, but you made the book just the same.
It is impossible to summarize a person’s life in a few minutes but I challenge to reflect on the moments that you spent with Bill. While meeting with Effie, Janet, James, & Lisha they talked about how Lisa had the ability to always make you laugh. They talked about how she spent time helping out with Effie around the house & how tough she was. They spoke about how she like to make jewelry with beads and her love of country music like Loretta Lynn or Conway Twitty. These memories do not have to be monumental events but rather moments that you shared and can recall in times of sadness.
God blessed us with Lisa Marlene Federline on May 29th, 1968. She was born in Silver Spring, Maryland and was the daughter of the late Norman Matthew Federline.
She is survived by her mother, Effie Marie Federline of Louisa, daughter, Krista Yvonne Hornsby and husband Jeremy of Louisa, sons, James Lee Federline and wife Lisha of Mineral, Wesley Jason Davis Jr. of Bumpass; brother, Christopher Carl Embrey of Louisa; sisters, Janet Jones and husband Leonard of Gum Springs, Vicki Marie Hall and husband David of Louisa, Sherry Lynn Farmer of Louisa; and five grandchildren, Chloe Nicole, Trinity Renee, Kyleigh Mae, Brailee Ann and James Lee Federline Jr.
I would like to share just a few words with you. I will begin by reading from the Gospel of Luke Chapter 8 at Verse 22.
22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. 23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
Rather you are a Follower of Jesus Christ, have belief in God, or not this afternoon there is at least one thing that every one of us will be able to agree on. That is no matter how hard we try, there will be storms in this life. There will be seasons of hardship, of pain, of worry & anxiety, of fear, & of sadness.
In the text we just read we see that Jesus’s disciples are watching over the water at the storm that is moving upon them, yet Jesus sleeps. Now these men in this boat had seen Jesus perform many miracles. That had seen him cleanse lepers. They had seen him heal those who had physical ailments & those who were sick. This same Jesus that was able to do all of these supernatural things was sitting right there in the boat with them as the storm began to rage.
The storms of life look different from person to person. For some it is dealing with an illness. For others it is problems in the home with a spouse or member of your family, or even a friend. For some it is financial hardship. For some it is the loss of a loved one. In the text this afternoon, the disciples storm was a literal one with fierce winds and raging waves.
24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
If you are a Follower of Jesus Christ then you know full well that Jesus can be trusted. Trusted to help you deal with the storms of this life. If you are not a follower of Jesus today then this is your notice that God can be trusted and relied upon in times of hardship & pain.
You might be asking yourself, what in the world does this have to do with Lisa and honoring her life? It’s this simple, Lisa has departed this world. She has left this world that is filled with hurt, tears, struggle, calamity, sadness, and sickness. But you and I have not. What I present you with today is that in this world we will have trials and tribulations. We will have situations arise that may cause worry or panic. We will become ill or have those close to us who are sick. But all of these things are out of our control.
The guys in the scripture I read a few minutes ago were so focused on the storm that raged around them that they forgot that they had Jesus right there in the boat with them. Jesus the same person who they had seen perform miracles, they had seen Him heal the sick, speak of the authority given to Him from Heaven but they forgot the He was right there with Him.
My point this afternoon is that if you are a follower of Jesus Christ and you have a relationship with God then do not lose sight of Him when trouble comes. He will be there with you. If you have never come to a place where you have accepted Jesus Christ then you are allowing the things of this world to consume you for no reason.
Jesus said in the Gospel of John,
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
From my understanding Lisa did not frequently attend church though she read her Bible and accepted Jesus as her savior. She put her faith in the only being that can give you life eternal in Heaven. Jesus said He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one came to the Father but by Him. This afternoon it is my prayer that you have accepted Jesus as your savior. If not, please don’t put it off or hesitate. There will be a time when you will step into eternity and you will wished you would have.

Let’s Pray
"Father I come before you humbly this afternoon to pray for those in this house. Father you have called the soul of our loved one and friend, Lisa and we express our thanks, for the privilege of knowing her. We thank you for the impact Lisa had on our lives, and for your mercy through challenging times. We are thankful for your love; You, who sent us Jesus the Great Shepherd. You who have prepared a place for all who trust you, and who alone are worthy of our faith. I pray for all those who knew Lisa will rely you for continual strength, continued comfort, and for purpose. It’s in Jesus’ Holy Name that I ask these things - AMEN”
This concludes Lisa’s Memorial Service. The family has invited you for a meal and fellowship upstairs in the fellowship Hall. May God Bless each one of you.
