Intro
We have come to the third sermon in the Power of Healing series. Last week’s message was about the miraculous healings of Jesus Christ and how His healings revealed His power and authority during His ministry. The first week we learned about the Author of healing …the Almighty Divine Healer.....Jehovah Rapha....our God who is able to heal us from all of our diseases and deliver us from the penalty of sin and bless us with the gift of salvation.
When we think about the word symptoms, most of us think about a physical indication or evidence ....that something just isn’t right with our bodies. If you have an upset stomach or feel bloated, it’s a possibility that you may have indigestion. If you wake up in the morning and your eye has some redness, burning and is itching....it’s a possibility that you may have pink eye. Or if you find yourself feeling some sinus pain.....some pressure behind your eyes....and you have some nasal congestion or even a runny nose and fever....it’s a possibility that you have a sinus infection. If you have a fever…chills .....shortness of breath.....you’re fatigue and have muscle aches......and have a loss of taste and smell.....it’s a possibility that you may have the COVID-19.
In other words, when you have physical symptoms or even a mental indication your body is giving you evidence that something is not right. Now.....before I go any further....let me say that I’m no medical doctor....and if you have any of those symptoms I just mentioned.....that wasn’t a diagnosis and you should see a medical doctor.
What I am saying is that, we know when something is not right with our bodies when our bodies begin to exhibit .....or indicates a sign or a trait....or what we know as a symptom.....
Is that right?
Yes....symptoms often indicate that something is not right......
But I’d like to suggest to you on this fine Sunday morning......that the symptoms of healing are a good thing.
I believe that the symptoms of healing are like a sweet aroma to the nostrils of God!
I believe that the symptoms of healing will have the angels of heaven rejoicing.
I believe that the symptoms of healing can cause high audible inflections of the voice.
I believe that the symptoms of healing can cause the striking of one’s palm of their hands together repeatedly ....and rapidly.....resulting in a loud sharp noise......
Yes my brothers and sisters......it is good to experience the symptoms of healing.
I believe our text this morning gives us examples of it means to have Symptoms of Healing....
Let us look at our text in the Gospel according to Mark......
In the second Chapter......and 12th verse......it’s recorded.....
The New Revised Standard Version Jesus Heals a Paralytic

12 And he stood up, and immediately took the mat and went out before all of them; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

I believe that the first symptom of healing should be a

Gesture of Glory

Now to set the stage for this pericope of text...... Jesus was in Capernaum....in a house.....and there was a crowd of people in the house.....And When I say that there was crowd of people....I mean the house was packed…verse 2 of this same chapter tells us......
The New Revised Standard Version Jesus Heals a Paralytic

So many gathered around that there was no longer room for them, not even in front of the door;

And here they all were.....packed like sardines.........listening to Jesus preach and speak a word.
But then out of no where.....there is noise coming from the roof of the house....... and then pieces of the roof came falling down into the house as Jesus was preaching......and the Bible tells us.....
And because of the faith of the paralytic and the four men that lowered him on the mat.......
Jesus begins with the spiritual healing of the paralytic......
Mark 2 and 5 Jesus says......”Son, your sins are forgiven”......
Jesus believed in holistic healing....He wasn’t going to heal just the physical ailment of the man paralysis......He healed the man’s spirit first........
This spiritual healing didn’t sit well with everyone that was in the house........
Jesus had some haters among the crowd.....that didn’t take His forgiveness of sins too well......
But then Jesus takes the healing to the next level and heals the man of his paralysis.......
Mark 2:11 NRSV
“I say to you, stand up, take your mat and go to your home.”
And because of His miraculous holistic healing......that the crowd of people in the house witnessed ......first hand.......responded with a symptom of healing........
The text says in .....Mark 2:12
they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
The word “glorified” in the Greek ....is the word “dox…sod....so”...... and it’s a verb ....and for my english experts......we know a verb means......or denotes that there is action involved.......
In other words....they were celebrating, they were extolling.....they were making it known by an action.....of magnifying.....
To make it plain.....they were giving God glory by recognizing Him in celebration.
They ALL were amazed and glorified God...... They all gave a Gesture of Glory......
And I don’t know about you my brothers and sisters......but if you can think about about a time when God healed you .....when He restored you......when He delivered you..........when He recovered you from sickness......from disease........ You out to have a Gesture of Glory.......you ought to celebrate His goodness for all that He has done......you ought to praise Him enthusiastically!! You need to show God a Gesture of Glory ..... You ought to.....Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. ...
You ought to have the symptom of a Gesture of Glory!!
A Gesture of Glory!!
But then there is another Symptom of healing that we can learn from our text this morning....
I believe that if you have been healed by the Lord....then you ought to have the symptom of a

Prone Posture

Look at the text in John 9:38
John 9:38 NRSV
He said, “Lord, I believe.” And he worshiped him.
Jesus recovered the sight of a man who was blind from birth.....and the symptom of healing that this man exhibited is.....by worshipping Jesus......
The word worship........is the word.......pros kin nay oh.....which is where we get the English word.......prostrate....meaning to lay oneself face down on the ground in reverence or submission....
In other words.....to show reverence to Jesus for this miraculous healing of his eyesight..... He layed down on the ground and worshipped Jesus....but not only did Jesus heal this man from a physical blindness......there was something to be learned in this narrative about the spiritual blindness of the Pharisee’s that questioned the man about his healing.......
To give context to our passage......
Jesus was walking through the area and noticed a beggar who had been blind since birth. Jesus spit on the ground, made some clay and then He put it on the man's eyes.
He instructed the man to "go and wash in the pool of Siloam". The blind man obeyed and received his sight! The townspeople asked him what happened.
In v11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
The Pharisees accused Jesus of being a sinner and this man responded by saying “I don’t know whether he is a sinner or not, but I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!”
The Pharisees asked him again....
John 9:26
The New Revised Standard Version The Pharisees Investigate the Healing

26 They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”

I love the way he responded, he said "I have already told you once and you didn't listen, why do you want me to tell you again... Do you want to become His Disciples also?"
This made them angry even more.....
Then they reviled him, saying, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. 29 We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.”
The man who had been healed went on to testify about Jesus
Look at the text in
John 9:30–33 NRSV
The man answered, “Here is an astonishing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners, but he does listen to one who worships him and obeys his will. Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”
What this man understood was that Jesus was from God.....and he did what he knew was to be the proper response.....the proper symptom of healing.....so he worshipped Jesus......
I’m here to tell you this morning.....you can’t be afraid to worship Jesus.....you can’t be too siddity.....you can’t be too bourgeois .....too snobby.......too pretentious when it comes to worshipping the Lord.....
If the Lord healed you.....you need to assume the Prone Posture.........get down and worship God.......
You see my Brothers and Sisters....when you get down and worship God....you do so because of what God means to you!!
Worship comes from the core of who the worshipper is ......and what God means to the them.
In other words....
Worship is not about an emotion, it is more about a recognition of God.
The blind beggar knew and recognized that Jesus was God.....and showed reverence.....showed adoration.....and showed honor to Jesus.....for who He was.
My brothers and sisters ......where ever you are in your house right now.......if God gave you healing in your body......whether He saved your soul.....or healed your body.......
You ought to show the symptom of your healing and get in that Prone Posture and thank God for who He is.....and what He means to you........
I don’t care if someone looks at you funny.......you ought to show God that you worship Him for all that He is.....and all that He means to you.......
If He healed you from cancer.......
Prone Posture.....
If He healed you from a stroke.....
Prone Posture
If He healed you from a bad back....or a bad knee......
Prone Posture....
If you had gout in your foot.....and you’re not feeling that pain no more.......
Prone Posture.......
If you had problems with your heart......and he healed you...
Prone Posture.....
Oh.......I don’t know who I’m talkin to this morning.....but if God healed you......you need to show the Symptoms of Healing through a Gesture of Glory.........through a Prone Posture and thank God.....for all that He is and that He’s done for you!!
Romans 12:1 (NIV®) says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
Live in a posture that is holy and pleasing to God.
In every season, there is worship. In ALL things we are to give thanks. Yes my brothers and sister.......
You see, David danced.
Paul and Silas sang.
A woman gave everything in her alabaster box.
Abraham obeyed even when it meant sacrificing his son.
Hannah worshipped in spite of her barren womb.
Job submitted and praised God in spite of losing what he thought was everything.
Daniel prayed.
A Gesture of Glory....and the Prone Posture......
But then there is another symptom of healing.....
Look at the text in....
Acts 3:8–9 NRSV
Jumping up, he stood and began to walk, and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. All the people saw him walking and praising God,
I believe that a symptom of healing can be found in a

Passionate Praise

The Bible calls to our attention, that one afternoon about the 3:00 o’clock hour, Peter and John approached the GATE CALLED BEAUTIFUL on their way to the Temple to pray.
I can tell you a little about this Beautiful Gate. This gate was --
• 75 feet high and 60 feet wide
• It was made of Corinthian Brass
• Beautifully ornamented with gold and silver
• Because this gate was located on the East Side of the Temple, it would have radiated in Beauty with every brilliant Sunrise
• As a matter of fact, this gate was of such beauty, one would hardly even notice a lowly beggar sitting by the gate
But as Peter and John were about to pass through the Gate called Beautiful, this lame beggar asks them for some money.
Instead of giving the beggar money.......
Acts 3:6–7 NRSV
But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk.” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong.
And then we see the response of the beggar....... He immediately....
Acts 3:8–9 NRSV
Jumping up, he stood and began to walk, and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. All the people saw him walking and praising God,
The beggar had a Passionate Praise because he had been healed.......
He wasn’t ashamed to let others see his praise.......
All the people saw him walking and praising God.....
And my brothers and sisters....that ought to be our witness also......... We ought to be Passionate in our Praise for the healing goodness of God......
Passionate Praise opens the gates of Heaven and the doors of blessings.
Passionate Praise is the answer.
Praise is always the solution.
Praise brings us closer to God.
Because He inhabits the Praises of His people
