Exodus 4:10–16 KJV 1900
10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. 13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send. 14 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. 15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do. 16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.
Exodus 2, we find a transition...
God’s people had now been in bondage for over 400 years - Joseph is long gone and things in Egypt had digressed into a bitter time of oppression and slavery...
Last week we saw how God was working to bring about his perfect, sovereign will and reorganized Joseph’s life...
the last of Chapter 2 shows part of this transitional time...

23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. 24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God dhad respect unto them.

These verses connect Gen 12 to Joseph’s life - bringing Jacob to Egypt… to save much people alive...
God’s sovereign plan...
Time has elapsed - great amounts of time in our eyes - but compared to eternity - 400 years is nothing...
God is going to bring a deliverer and a new leader into the picture...
a man whose life should have ended at birth
a man whose life was saved as a baby - when his mama put him into an ark - and he was saved from the death that the waters would bring…
A man - who had been given a fresh start in Egypt - raised in the palace as the son of pharaoh’s daughter
A man - who in a time of lapsed judgment - took another man’s life - justifying it by the situation and circumstances...
A man who became an exile - on the backside of the desert for 40 years...
a time of teaching
a time of growing
a time of builiding
a time of re-building
A Condition
Exodus 3:1–9 KJV 1900
1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. 2 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. 5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. 6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. 7 And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; 8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
The Lord reveals what the condition is… the need
I have seen the afflictions - vs7
I have heard the cry
I know their sorrows vs 9
I have seen the oppression
The Lord reveals His response...
I am come down to deliver...
I am come to bring them up out of the land of affliction
I am come to bring them into a land flowing with milk and honey… a place of blessing...
not a place of survival
not a place of existence -
a place of bounty
a place of blessing...
A Calling
Exodus 3:10 KJV 1900
10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
God get’s right to the point -
Come now therefore...
come… leave where you are and come to where I am...
it wasn’t go - it was come...
Later it will be a go, but the go follows the come...
If you or I attempt to “go” and do God’s work without “Coming to God first” we will never make it...
Come...
Notice the patience of God
Notice the pursuing of God… He begins the conversation - everything begins with him...
The same call was given to Noah and his family...
Genesis 7:1 KJV 1900
1 And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
A Contest to the call
Exodus 3:11 KJV 1900
11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
Who am I?
aren’t we like Moses?
when God calls, we recognize our:
insignificance
insufficiency
inability
Who am I?
I don’t have the Position
the elders and the people won’t listen to me
I don’t have the Political Influence - Pharaoh is going to blow me off
I don’t have the Power - to accomplish such a task...
We ask the questions - But God already had the answer...
Notice - God’s answer is the success of God’s plan...
Exodus 3:11–12 KJV 1900
11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? 12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
God didn’t plan for failure...
Moses continued in his contesting of God’s call - God’s methods… but we find a gracious God who not only gives commands…
We see lastly...
A Concession
A Condition
A Calling
A Contest of the call
A Concession
The God of Heaven makes a concession...
Moses still doesn’t feel like he can do it… but God had a plan...
There was a team...
Not one individual...
Not one leader...
Not one to decide...
Not one to lead
