1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: The whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
We’re living in a day in time where the church has lost sight of what’s important. The church has lost sight of the task at hand. The task that was set before us is to live a life of holiness. But somewhere along the line holiness became an option and not the mandate it was meant to be. Somewhere along the line we’ve lost accountability for whats right and whats wrong. We’ve lost accountability for one another, and we’ve lost accountability to self.
But may I submit to you that the Lord is calling for the church to return to its rightful place. May I submit to you that Holiness is NOT and option but a mandate from the Lord to His people. Just like in this particular scripture the Lord is looking for a people who are ready and that he can send. Is it you? can he send you without the details?
Saints we’re living in a day and time where people just don’t have a reverence for the voice of God. The Lord will speak and instead of instant obedience, we wanna play wheel of fortune and jeopardy with God. We think we have to know the whole picture in order for us to move. We want God to lay it all out for us like a GPS.
That’s because we’ve become so comfortable with when God shows up and the way He shows up that we’ve lost our conviction, that brings me to my first point:
God can’t and won’t send you anywhere when you lack conviction (Is 6:5). In order for the Lord to use us there has to be a level of conviction in our relationship with God that will cause you fear God like you fear your momma. A level of conviction that causes you to fear the Lord like you fear losing your job, car, or house.
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
Once you’ve experienced the conviction of the Lord then comes correction (Is 6:6-7). Correction can only occur once God has given revelation of error. In other words if God hasn’t dealt with you and revealed to you where you error then there can be no correction. That means you need to go back to step 1…conviction!
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
Once you’ve been convicted and corrected then change can occur (Is 6:8). It is in our ability to change that we will be able to receive the biggest blessings.
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
Sometimes you have to leave what’s familiar in order to know God for yourself (Gen 12:1)
1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.
Closing:
Isaiah couldn’t effectively be used by God until he was convicted, corrected, and changed; and the same bodes for us as well. The church needs conviction, correction, and change on a daily basis. The more frequently we experience the Lord’s conviction, correction, and change, the better our relationship with God will be, and the more effective ministry and witnessing will be. Now ask yourself… Can he send you without the details?
