But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

THE CONTEXT OF THE FINAL COMMAND

Luke 24:49 KJV 1900

And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

THE DISCIPLES, OBEYING CHRIST’S COMMAND, WAIT IN JERUSALEM.

THE DISCIPLES ARE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT OF CONFUSION AND ANTICIPATION.

SOME ARE STILL CONVENIENCED THAT CHRIST WOULD ESTABLISH THE EARTHLY KINGDOM WITH HIS AUTHORITY ON EARTH.

Acts 1:6–7 KJV 1900

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

SOME HAD FORGOTTEN HIS PROMISE OF POWER AND WOULD BE VERY AFRAID OF THE PURSUIT OF THOSE IN HUMAN AUTHORITY.

Acts 1:3 KJV 1900

To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

SOME WOULD REMEMBER HIS PROMISE OF POWER AND WOULD BE ANXIOUS TO BE CLOTHED BY THE ONE WITH ALL AUTHORITY BOTH IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH.

THE ARTICULATION OF THE FINAL COMMAND

HE CORRECTS THEIR THINKING ABOUT THEIR PURPOSE

Acts 1:7 KJV 1900

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

HE TELLS THEM THAT THE SPIRIT WILL GIVE THEM POWER

THE ISSUE IS NOT A PHYSICAL KINGDOM, BUT HIS MESSAGE IS SPIRITUAL (POWER WITNESS)

THEY WILL NOT RULE; THEY WILL SERVE.

THEY WILL NOT BUILD EARTHLY BUILDINGS; THEY WILL BUILD A SPIRITUAL BUILDING, THE CHURCH.

THIS IS NOT THE TRANSFERENCE OF AUTHORITY; BUT OF PHYSICAL AN SPIRITUAL RAW POWER.

THIS IS THE POWER WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES UPON YOU.
