READ Deuteronomy 6:10-25

When you put a set of keys into the hands of a 16 year old, you are handing over a huge responsibility.
There are laws, expectations, and standard one is expected to abide by.
Failure to abide will result in riding a bicycle for the foreseeable future.
Continuing from last week, Moses is preparing a 2nd generation Israel to embark upon the land of Canaan. (Promised Land).
This was the land of prosperity & abundance.
Houses, wells, food, etc. Everything they could need in every way. None built by Israel. All provided.
Before, the people had been in the desert for 40 years.
God was teaching Hebrew’s freedom from bondage. Why?
The human heart is prone to find more comfort in bondage than freedom.
It is time for Christian households to live in freedom.

“Remember Where it Started”.

Memorizing 6:5 would be essential to Israel upon entering this new land.
All they had to was take the land and enjoy it.
To have faith in God’s promises.
Castaway - Tom Hanks drinking bottled water.
Before we encountered redemption in Jesus, we were destined to doom.
We are called to freedom from sin brother’s and sister’s.
How do Christians remember their freedom? God’s Holy Word!!!
Parents, the best way we can teach our children is to remove the distractions that keep our kid’s from hearing His and word and then teaching.

“Fear the Lord”.

Moses warned what would happen if Israel ceased to fear the Lord the Lord and turned to worship false idols.
In anger, God would obliterate them.
They were to represent the one true God to all of the nations.
His glory was at stake. The people were quick to forget.
Massah “The place of testing”. Exodus 17:1-17
“Fear the Lord” is a concept that is lost in our society and church.
Is there amazing grace abundant for you and for me? Yes!
Don’t be distracted enough to think that God doesn’t hate sin.
God HATES sin.
v. 15 makes clear.
With that in mind, what sins at home display our lack of fear in the Lord?
God loves you and desires to be with you, but families, a healthy dose of fear of His glory is in order, He’s not messing around.
Families, let our actions display that our God is taken seriously.

“Remember the Past for Sake of the Future”

Moses taught Israel to teach the future generations.
There was a responsibility to give God glorifying answers.
Once in slavery, but delivered by God.
This is the kind of teaching needed today.
Awana’s taught me to memorize scripture.
(Read quote from Family Discipleship pg. 90)
