Teach us to pray

Introduction

This fall we are going to spend some time learning about prayer. Lord’s Prayer

11 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say:

“Father, hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come.

3 Give us each day our daily bread,

4 and forgive us our sins,

for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.

And lead us not into temptation.”

What is meditation?Deliberately affecting your mind by heart and moving it to feel something.Prayer is a two person conversation. 1 sided? Abraham Lincoln - nasally voice We need to speak to someone we hear from constantly so we don’t make up a voice for them in our heads.Meditation allows us to know his voice so we aren’t making one up for him.

4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”
