Intro

The book of second Corinthians was written by the Apostle Paul. In this, his second epistle to the Corinthian church, he writes with the intention of refuting false teaching. Paul had spent time cultivating the church and after he was gone the enemy came to undo what he had done and suddenly there was a big mess and a heap of confusion in the Corinthian Church because the seed that was sewn by Paul was uprooted by the lies and deception of false teachers.
In our text today, Paul is writing to affirm the legitimacy of His ministry. Keep in mind that it is this same Paul who loved them and labored with them to teach them and lead them christ. Ladies and gentle men don’t you know that it’s the people that you do the most for who have the greatest propensity to hurt you? After all I’ve done, all of the time I’ve spent, all of the moments we’ve shared you don’t know the truth? That’s what we have come to combat today… life has beat you down all week and we are here today to build each other back up and so here we are…

Out Look

In this chapter, Paul opens continuing from his discourse in chapter 4 concerning being afflicted, sharing that if he should live great but if he should die even greater. For if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. This point is way before but drives us straight to our verse this morning concerning ALL things being new. We have a new out look on life. Even though I troubled on every side, I’m not distressed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed. In addition to a new walk, a new talk, and a new name I have a new outlook. That despite all circumstances of my outward self my inward self is yet renewed because of what Paul says in 4: 17:18. Somebody shout I’m new!

Confidence

Not only is my outlook new but I have a new sense of confidence. Prior to being saved our confidence was rooted in self and our own strength, power, knowledge, education and skills. Now my confidence is in in knowing that if I live or die I’ll be okay. Some might call this crazy but if it’s crazy it’s alright because I’m confident that if we die will officially live.

Ambition

Not only is my outlook and my confidence new but I have new ambition. Ambition is a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. All of us have ambitions of our own desiring to be, to do, to have, to go, and the list goes on however this ambition is to be accepted of him (2 Corinthians 5:9).
This ambition has nothing to do with my wants or desires, my plans or my thoughts, but everything to do with my desire to carry out his will, his plan and his thoughts for my life.

Opinion

2 Corinthians 5:14–15 ESV
14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
Constraineth… being held back or controlled.
judge: Made a decision or formed an opinion. There are lots of opinions out there concerning Jesus and the Gospel but this opinion is root in my restraint or limit… My new opinion is not that I should be saved and continue to do what I want, not that I should be able have my cake and eat it too but that because he died for me I should live for him.

World View

2 Corinthians 5:16 KJV 1900
16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
I see the world and people differently… I don’t see them as disgusting or dirty, rich or poor; male female; gay straight or otherwise; but I see them as someone is in need of being made new because
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV 1900
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
