Encountering The God Of Your Dreams!
Genesis 35:1 NASB95
Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and live there, and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”
Genesis 35:3 NASB95
and let us arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.”
In order to leave our HISTORY in order to enter into our DESTINY, we need to ENCOUNTER the God of our DREAMS!
We have been in a war for our ATTENTION in order to defile our AFFECTION!
In order to ENCOUNTER the God of our DREAMS, there are four things we need in our life:
I. The ABILITY to SEE God at WORK must be established in our life!
Genesis 28:12 NASB95
He had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
Genesis 28:13 NASB95
And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants.
It is God’s desire for you to possess the ABILITY to SEE Him at work in your life, therefore:
A. An INTRODUCTION to the PERSON-HOOD of God must be established!
Genesis 28:13 NASB95
And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants.
YHWH= translated LORD and conveys the idea of the God who keeps His promises.
ELOHIM= translated God in Genesis 2:3 and conveys the idea of the CREATOR of CREATION
In addition to an Introduction to the Person-hood of God, you also need:
B. COMMUNICATION of the PROMISES of God must be established!
Genesis 28:13 NASB95
And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants.
Genesis 28:14 NASB95
“Your descendants will also be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and in you and in your descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 28:15 NASB95
“Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
In addition to an Introduction to the Person-Hood of God and Communication of the Promises of God, you also need:
C. REVELATION of the PRESENCE of God must be established!
Genesis 28:16 NASB95
Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.”
Genesis 28:17 NASB95
He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
Once the Ability To See God at Work in your life is established:
II. The FAITH to BELIEVE God’s WORD must be established in your life!
Genesis 28:18–19 NASB95
So Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on its top. He called the name of that place Bethel; however, previously the name of the city had been Luz.
Genesis 28:20 NASB95
Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me on this journey that I take, and will give me food to eat and garments to wear,
How Does God help us establish FAITH in our LIFE?
A. Faith requires HEARING the VOICE of God!
Romans 10:17 NASB95
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
WORD=RHEMA
Colossians 3:16 NASB95
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
B. Faith requires OBEYING the WILL of God!
Genesis 29:1 NASB95
Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the sons of the east.
Once the Ability to See God at Work in your life has been established and the Faith to Believe God’s Word for your life has been established, then:
III. The COURAGE to DO God’s WILL must be established in your life!
Genesis 31:13 NASB95
‘I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar, where you made a vow to Me; now arise, leave this land, and return to the land of your birth.’ ”
Jacob had been running from the threat of death made by his brother Esau, but now he HEARS the VOICE of God telling Him the WILL of God is for him to return to the land of his birth!
When Jacob begins OBEYING the WILL of God, notice what happens in his life:
Genesis 33:1 NASB95
Then Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two maids.
Genesis 32:7 NASB95
Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed; and he divided the people who were with him, and the flocks and the herds and the camels, into two companies;
Why would Jacob divide his family into two companies?
Genesis 32:1–2 NASB95
Now as Jacob went on his way, the angels of God met him. Jacob said when he saw them, “This is God’s camp.” So he named that place Mahanaim.
MAHANAIM= Two Camps or Two Companies
Once the Ability to See God at Work in your life has been established and the Faith to Believe God’s Word for your life has been established and the Courage to Do God’s Will in your life has been established, then:
IV. The HOPE to ENDURE God’s WAYS in your life must be established!
Genesis 32:24 NASB95
Then Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak.
There are times when God desires for us to be “left alone” not out of punishment, but so that He can change us and then bless us!
Genesis 32:25–26 NASB95
When he saw that he had not prevailed against him, he touched the socket of his thigh; so the socket of Jacob’s thigh was dislocated while he wrestled with him. Then he said, “Let me go, for the dawn is breaking.” But he said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
Before Jacob could be changed and blessed, he had to CONFESS his NAME, why did Jacob had to confess his name?
JACOB= deceiver, schemer
Genesis 32:28 NASB95
He said, “Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed.”
ISRAEL= one who wrestles with God, one who has prevailed with God, one who has seen God face to face
Genesis 32:28 NASB95
He said, “Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed.”
Genesis 32:30 NASB95
So Jacob named the place Peniel, for he said, “I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been preserved.”
PENIEL= the face of God
After Jacob’s transforming wrestling with God, it is time to see if he has been delivered from the spirit of fear and if he will be delivered from the fear of his brother Esau!
Genesis 33:1 NASB95
Then Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two maids.
Genesis 33:4 NASB95
Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
Genesis 33:20 NASB95
Then he erected there an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel.
EL-ELOHE-Israel= God, The God of Israel!
