Ephesians 1:17-20 (ESV)
17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him,
18having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
19and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might
20that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,

1. God Has Lavished His Love on Us for a Purpose
Bible Verse
1 John 3:1-2 (NIV)
1See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
2Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Bible Verse
Romans 8:28-31 (CSB)
28We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
29For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
30And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.
31What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
Bible Verse
Ephesians 5:1-2 (CSB)
1Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children,
2and walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

Meet the Tater Family – Church Family From Way Back
(This has been around a long time, but I adapted it for this message. – P.J.)
Dick Tater
He’s the self-appointed potentate who feels everything should be done his way. He never serves or works; he just bosses others.
Hezy Tater
When Hezy is asked to help at church, he knows he should, but he always puts it off. He’s sure he’ll get around to serving God someday.
Carmen Tater
Carmen has an opinion about everything, and you never need to ask what she thinks because she’s the first one to tell you.
Speck Tater
Speck’s favorite phrase is: “I love work; I can watch others do it for hours.” He doesn’t get involved, but he’s a great observer.
Agi Tater
When Agi was in school, she got poor marks on “plays well with others.” Agi is continually in conflict with others, and always seems to be involved in strife and division. No matter what the pastor or church does, it’s never good enough in Agi’s eyes.
The Twins: Sweet Tater & Emmy Tater
Sweet Tater
This is the only cordial and cooperative member of the Tater family. Sweet Tater is the ideal member of the church. She has a great attitude, is faithful, committed, supportive, and involved. She doesn’t dictate, imitate, hesitate, commentate, spectate, or agitate!
Emmy Tater
Growing up she followed all the latest fads. She never really discovered her own identity because she was always busy trying to be like someone else. Maybe being a twin, she felt she had to work harder to be recognized. But one day she read Ephesians 5:1 out loud and it just seemed like God was talking straight to her. “BE EMMY TATOR” and she new her true identity was in imitating Christ instead of the world.
2. Lavish Love is Obvious Not Hidden
Bible Verse
Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)
1I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Bible Verse
Romans 12:9-21 (CSB)
9Let love be without hypocrisy. Detest evil; cling to what is good.
10Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters. Outdo one another in showing honor.
11Do not lack diligence in zeal; be fervent in the Spirit; serve the Lord.
12Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer.
13Share with the saints in their needs; pursue hospitality.
14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.
16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation.
17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Give careful thought to do what is honorable in everyone’s eyes.
18If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
19Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath, because it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.
20But If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him something to drink. For in so doing you will be heaping fiery coals on his head.
21Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.

Illustration
Right now the world is hungry for genuine love. Although they may have despised Christ, the Church, the Bible, & Christians thus “trampling on the honeycomb,” their hunger is going to draw them to the sweetness of God’s love shining through God’s people, even though it’s a bitter thing to draw water from the well you have cursed. – Pastor Jeff Burkhardt
