THE SCOPE OF OUR SIN

Prayer Meeting Notes

October 13, 1993

Psalm 14

INTRODUCTION

Please find two prayer partners and form groups of three.  Work through Psalm 14 using the following guide.  Some of the questions must be answered individually others will require group input.  Be prepared to share anything that God reveals to you with the large group at the close of this service.

OUR PROBLEM

Psalms 14:1 (NIV)  For the director of music. Of David. The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."  They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.

"fool" =  moral perversity, not intellectual weakness

"God" = Jehovah, God as He reveals Himself

"corrupt" =            Same word that is used in Genesis to describe the condition of people in Noah's day.

How have you denied the existence of God in your life?

How has our Church denied the existence of God?

Take time now and ask God to reveal how you have denied His existence.

Ask God to reveal your "corruptness"

GOD'S PERSPECTIVE

Psalms 14:2‑3 (NIV)              The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.  (3) All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

When God looks a you what does He see?

Ask God to help you gain His perspective on your life.

How have you personally and we ("all") as a church "turned aside?"

Ask God to show you how your "good works" fall short of His standard.

OUR PLEA

Psalms 14:4‑6 (NIV)              Will evildoers never learn‑‑ those who devour my people as men eat bread and who do not call on the LORD?  (5) There they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous.  (6) You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge.

Are you ready to call upon God?

Or will you continue in your ways?

GOD'S PROMISE

Psalms 14:7 (NIV) Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!  When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

God promises to send salvation in the person of Jesus Christ.

Claim God's promise for yourself!
