1 Peter 1:13‑21

INTRODUCTION

Dirty Hair ‑ Ball field Fight

God calls us to be holy in a polluted world.

Holy = different, set apart for God.

Five compelling reasons we should Keep It Clean...

1A.      THE IMMENANT RETURN OF CHRIST (v.13)

"when Jesus Christ is revealed"

We are to live looking forward to the coming of Christ...

1B.       Disciplined In Our Thinking

"prepare your minds for action" = center our thoughts on the second coming of Christ

2B.       Stable In Our Actions

"self ‑ controlled" = steady, under control

1 Peter 4:7 (NIV)  The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self‑controlled so that you can pray.

3B.       Optimistic In Our Outlook

"set your hope fully"

2A.      THE INFINATE HOLINESS OF GOD (vv.14‑16)

1B.       Children should be like their parents

2 Peter 1:4 (NIV)  ... you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

2B.       God by His nature is holy

1 John 1:5 (NIV)  ...God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

3A.      THE INERRANT WORD OF GOD (v.16)

"it is written..."

1B.       The Word reveals God's mind ‑ Learn it

2B.       The Word reveals God's heart ‑ Love it

3B.       The Word reveals God's will ‑ Live it

4A.      THE IMPARTIAL JUSTICE OF GOD (v.17)

1B.       He will judge our works

Ø       Judgment Seat

2B.       He will judge our motives

"judge" = To judge in order to find something good.

3B.       Produce fear

Ø       Not fear of judgment, but fear of disappointing Him.

5A.      THE IMPERISHABLE LOVE OF GOD (vv.18‑21)

1B.       Who They Were (v.18)

Slaves

"redeemed"

Empty

"the empty way of life handed down to you..."

2B.       What Christ Did (vv. 19‑21)

He died for us

He lives for us
