John 12:1-8

INTRODUCTION

Contextual Background

Jesus was on His way to the cross.

In less than a week He will die.

Scriptural Background

Martha is the Worker

Lazarus is the Witness

Mary…

Ø      Mary listened to Jesus (Luke 10:38-42)

Ø      She trusted Jesus (John 11:32)

Ø      She worshipped Jesus (John 12:1-8)

Sermon Background

We are not all the same.

Romans 12:4-5 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

Two Questions:

Judas: “What can Jesus do for me?”

Mary: “What can I do for Jesus?”


1A.       SHE DID WHAT SHE COULD

1B.      She Accepted Her Limits

Ø      She was not a Martha

Ø      She was not a Lazarus

2B.      She Amplified Her Uniqueness

Ø      She did what she could - What God wanted her to do.

Ø      She did what only she could do.
