General considerations
“One” used 11 times = identification with Adam and with Christ
“reign” used 5 times = to describe two kingdoms and two kings
“much more” used 2 times = to indicate that in Christ we gain more than we lost in Adam.
Three types of death -
Physical = separation of the spirit from the body
Spiritual = separation from and rebellion against God.
Eternal = eternal separation from God.
Let’s Look At These Two Kingdoms...

1A. THE KINGDOM OF ADAM
1B. How You Enter This Kingdom: By Birth
Physical in nature
Natural in origin
Shared by every human being
2B. The Effects Of This Kingdom: Sin
The presence of sin (v.12a)
Adam both represented and contained us.
He was created in God’s image (Gen. 1:26-27)
His descendants are created in Adam’s image and likeness
Genesis 5:3 "When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth."
The penalty of sin (v.12b)
Adam sinned he died spiritually and eventually physically.
The penalty of death was imputed on all man because of Adam’s sin
The power of sin (vv. 13-14)
Physical Death came as a direct result of Adam’s sin.
This is why babies die.
The inherit nature to sin comes from Adam - this leads to spiritual death.
Ephesians 2:1 "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,"
