Intro

A matter of the heart
All the Beatitudes are about the heart
Build off each other
poor in spirit - recognize our need for a Savior
Mourn - for the cost of your sin
gentile/meek - realizing that all comes from God
today
hunger and thirst for righteousness
who longs to grow in faith and seek after that which can only be supplied by God

Hunger and Thirst

“To have a strong desire to attain some goal, with the implication of an existing lack.”
To long for it
“implication of an existing lack”
Romans 3:10 as it is written, “THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;
Righteousness
“The quality of being morally right or justifiable”
“doing that which God desires”
not longing to please self or any other person
doing the things that please God
“follow my commands” “my sheep know my voice”
Following God not just with words and confessions
but with actions

God will supply

Righteousness is supplied by God
as we show faithful with little, he will give more
part of Sanctification process
as we work out our salvation, God will strengthen our faith and increase our righteousness
not a one and done filling of his righteousness
a daily pouring over us
Noah and Abraham
Noah
Heb. 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
Abraham
“faith counted as righteousness”
Heb. 11:8-19
Pharisees and Scribes
by works you were made righteous
Matt 5:20 “For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
surpass because it is beyond works, it’s a matter of faith
Scribes and Pharisees sought man’s approval and praise for their righteousness
We only seek God’s praise for it
“Don’t let your right hand know what the left hand is doing.”
“Righteousness is doing that which God desires”
he desires faith, confession, fruit
God counts faith as righteousness

Conclusion

John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.
Jesus is the source of satisfying that hunger and thirst
that which our heart longs for, can only be satisfied by Christ Jesus
we are content with Jesus
no longer searching the world to fulfill the desires of our heart
only Jesus can do that
What is it that your heart longs for?
anything other than Jesus will leave you lacking and wanting more
If you believe in Jesus
then long for the desires of His heart, people saved, growth in faith, daily reaching out to him
If you don’t believe in Jesus
then you will forever be searching for something that will fill your heart, while the true filling, the lasting filling, is just before you.
Will you let him in? He is waiting for you.
