CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE

VARIOUS SCRIPTURES

The Forth Telling

Pastor              Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. ( Isaiah 40:1 )

Congregation    A voice of one calling: "In the desert prepare the way for the LORD ; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.  (Isaiah 40:3)

Pastor              And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."  (Isaiah 40:5)

Song                 O Come, O Come Emmanuel

Pastor              For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  (Isaiah 9:6)

The Birth of the Messiah

Pastor              and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.  (Luke 2:7)

Pastor              And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.  (Luke 2:8)

Congregation    An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  (Luke 2:9)

Song                 Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Pastor              But the angel said to them,

Congregation    "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.  (Luke 2:10-11)

Pastor              Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,  (Luke 2:13)

Congregation    "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."  (Luke 2:14)

The Coming of the Wise Men

Pastor              After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem  and asked,  (Matthew 2:1)

Congregation    ... "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him."  (Matthew 2:2)

Song                 O Come Let Us Adore Him

Pastor              He sent them to Bethlehem and said,

Congregation    "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to e, so that I too may go and worship him."  (Matthew 2:8)

Pastor              After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.  (Matthew 2:9)

Song                 We Three Kings

Pastor              On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.  (Matthew 2:11)

Our Gift

Congregation    We come like the wise men to worship the Messiah...Jesus

Pastor              What do you bring?

Congregation    Our time, talents, family and hearts.

Pastor              Wise men still seek God and worship him.

Song                 I Surrender All

Pastor              The head of each family will now come and light your candle and then return and light the candle of each member in your family. 

Congregation    Let our light so shine before men that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father which is in heaven.
