HOW TO BE AN IMPACT PLAYER

Matthew 5:33-48

INTRODUCTION

The Ultimate Impact Player

Someone whose very presence can change the outcome of a game or event.

You can be an impact player in your world.

But to do so you must bring something “different,” something “unique,” to the game.

In these verse Jesus tells us how to live in order to “impact” our world!

1A.       THE WITNESS OF YOUR WORD - “Mean What You Say” (33-37)

1B.       A Practice Eliminated (33-36)

Leviticus 19:12

"'Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the LORD.

The Pharisees had added to this to complicate the situation.

2B.       A Principle Emphasized (37)

“Say what you mean and mean what you say!”

You word should and must be your bond!

Application

Do you pay the bills you promised to pay? - On time?

Have you kept your promise to your mate?

Have you kept your promises to God?

God honors simple honest!!!

A life threatening attack

What it was....

An insulting word or act

What we are to do...

Do not strike back - that is what the world would do.

Do not become a pacifist

Do not become a doormat - only two cheeks.

Tunic and cloak indicates some wealth.

Cloak would have represented his bed roll.

Always be willing to go the extra mile!

Not sinless perfection

Don’t be merely human - live on a divine level.

“perfect” = telos; functional perfection, to reach the full purpose of something or to complete the process.

To be a “perfect” fit - to complete the task you were designed to do.

Look beyond the wrongs of others - Love unconditionally.

 

Fulfill your God-given role!
