Introduction

pastor Orr, sunday school team
Galatians 6:10 ESV
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
The Memoir “the boy who Harnessed the wind”
Young William lives in the village of Wimbe, and is excited about repairing radios. This is a problem because he is born into a farming family and radio building is not a necessity.
william has a love for science and although he was forced to leave school because his parents could not pay tuition; his science teacher gives him access to the library so he could keep reading.
As you continue, you see how drought in his village made it hard for the farmers to produce crops. Many farmers began to loose everything. William’s family is no different.
William had a plan to make a windmill that could create an irrigation system to rebuild the farming community. The only problem is that he would have to use his family’s only source of transportation to do so. The family bicycle. . .
After many attempts, William figured how to make the windmill service the farm and rebuild agriculture.
This invention not only helped his family, but his sacrifice helped all those who ridiculed and abused his families property.
This story gives us a glimpse of Paul’s charge to us about being benevolent to all people. We see this in Paul’s letter to the Galatians. .
He calls us earlier to bear one another’s burdens, to come alongside those who may have errored in some way. Doing good is how we can be great, walk in our calling and purpose; and also follow after the example of Jesus Christ.
Jesus came into the world doing nothing but good. Healing the sick, raising the dead, giving sight to the blind. Jesus put others rights before his own. Philippians 2 gives us a look at His humility.
Philippians 2:1–10 ESV
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
In other words, don’t be selfish and self centered, think of others and they needs. As a matter of fact; count others more significant than yourself.
What a word for us today, this year. That in some shape or form, we have an obligation to do Good.
Doing good to others doesn’t mean neglecting one’s self, rather doing good reflects the abundance of the goodness of God in our own lives.
The times we live in reflect a lack of people doing good. Socially, Politically,
violence and abuse at all time highs.
injustice, brutality
A sudden disregard of medical directives
we need more examples of Jesus!!!

Be Good

why is doing good, Good?
Doing good allows us to walk in Christian ethics. It gives us the opportunity to visibly display the Goodness of God in our lives. Remember weeks ago, we came to the conclusion that our salvation experience is not visible. The heart transformation and heart surgery God does on our behalf when we surrender to Jesus is unseen.
This invisible unseen act God does for us is made visible in how we LIVE!!
Yes, how you live life Loving others- shows how much or how less you value what Christ did on our behalf.
Jesus died while we were yet sinners, while we were enemies He died in our place and for our sin.
He picked us up and cleaned us off, gave us new life
reconciled us to a Holy God, sat us in heavenly places
gave us access to say ABBA Father, direct relationship to the Creator of all things.
Cleansed us from all of our sin (past, present, future)
gave us the holy spirit as Comforter, and lives within us
As the saints of old would say he’s done so much for me I can not tell it all!!!!!
what is doing good
benevolence
coming alongside those in need
Corrective
warning those going in the wrong direction
Colossians 1:27–28 ESV
To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.

In General- To all

general kindness/common good
Galatians 6:10a ESV
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Paul says be good to all; general goodness. So do good to those who vote like you and those who don’t.
Do good to those who share the same team you like and your rivals.
Do good to those who’s lifestyle may be different; who’s definition of a good time is different, who’s values are different.
Why is this important? God has called us to be about reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:16–21 ESV
From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
God’s common grace- it mirrors the common grace on all. God’s common grace is not saving grace; rather His common kindness to all.
It rains on the Just and the Unjust, the sun shines on the just and the unjust.

In Faith- the household of faith

other believers
family
1 Timothy 5:8 ESV
But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
James 1:26–27 ESV
If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
