Devotion
Good evening everyone watching by video this evening,,, it's time for our weekly devotion.
I'm praying that all of you are having a wonderful week so far.
As I've said the last several weeks,,, we need to continue to remember those that are dealing with this virus.
Those that are sick,,, since there are many others dealing with this sickness as it continues to grow and,,, those that have lost loved ones,,, we need to continue to remember them as well.
Remember the medical teams that are dealing with this and any others that must work and take a chance of contacting this virus.
Also,,, continue to remember those on our prayer list,,, and our country and it’s leaders.
---------------
Our devotion this evening comes from "David Jeremiah's Morning and Evening Devotions".
Our scripture will be John 4:23 and I'll be reading from the Holman Christian Standard Bible.
John 4:23 (HCSB)
23 But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship Him.
God bless the reading and the hearing of your word this evening.
Let us pray:
Dear Lord,,, as we begin this evening,,, with all that are listening and watching by video,,, we ask that you open our ears to hear and our hearts and minds to receive the message that you have for us today,,, In Jesus' name I pray,,, Amen.
---------------
This verse is from the story in the Bible about the woman at the well.
If you remember,,, the Samaritan woman has come to the well while Jesus is there waiting for the disciples to find food.
And she ends up talking to Jesus and He gives her this message.
Like the woman at the well,,, we need Jesus' living water just as much as she did then.
We need to be connected to Jesus through the Holy Spirit and we have that benefit today.
And it's through that connection,,, that we can accomplish anything that He has for us to do.
---------------
In David Jeremiah's devotion this morning,,, he said that when Lawrence of Arabia was in Paris with some of his Arab friends after World War I,,, he took them to see the sights of the city.
His friends showed little interest in all of the sights there.
The thing that really interested them was the faucet in their bathtub.
They spent a lot of time turning it on and off; they thought it was wonderful.
All they had to do was turn the handle,,, and they could get all the water they wanted.
When they were getting ready to leave Paris,,, Lawrence found them in the bathroom with wrenches,,, trying to get the faucet off so they could take it with them.
“You see,” they said, “it is very dry in Arabia. What we need are faucets. If we have them, we will have all the water we want.”
Lawrence had to explain to them that the effectiveness of the faucet depended on the water system to which it was attached.
I also wonder what kind of a mess they would have had if they managed to get the whole faucet disconnected.
You see,,, they didn't realize that the water came from the pipes that were attached to a water supply.
They also didn't realize that the faucet wouldn't work without that water supply.
In the same way,,, we as Christians cannot work unless we are connected to God through the relationship that we should have.
Without that relationship we cannot work effectively on our own.
We also cannot worship God correctly without that connection.
David Jeremiah said,,, our study of worship reminds us that the effectiveness of all that we do in the church is not to be found in outward activity or service,,, but in the One who stands behind it.
The One we serve.
The One deserving,,, of our worship.
