GOD’S WORD TO HIS WAYWARD PEOPLE

Romans 11:1-10

INTRODUCTION

Chapter 11 is all about Israel

Paul deals with God’s Future Plans for Israel

We are given insight about how God deals with people who have left Him and rebelled against him

This week - God’s Word to a Wayward People

Next week - God’s Ways in Dealing with a Wayward People!

1A.       A WORD OF CHEER CONCERNING GOD’S MERCY (1)

Jonah

(Jonah 4:2)  He prayed to the LORD, "O LORD, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.

God always prefers mercy to judgement!

2A.       A WORD OF COMFORT CONCERNING GOD’S FAITHFULNESS (2)

God will never forsake His People

(Hebrews 13:5)  Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

God will never forsake His Promise

(2 Peter 3:9)  The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

God will never forsake His Purpose

(Jeremiah 29:11‑13)  For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. {12} Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. {13} You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

3A.       A WORD OF COUNSEL CONCERNING GOD’S GRACE (3-6)

The Sovereign Source of Grace (4)

“I have reserved...”

The Selective Nature of Grace (5)

“Chosen” = ekloge,(divine) selection election.

The Singular Message of Grace (6)

“If by grace...”

(Ephesians 2:8‑9)  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith‑‑and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God‑‑ {9} not by works, so that no one can boast.

4A.       A WORD OF CAUTION CONCERNING GOD’S JUSTICE (7-10)

What happens if we continue to reject Christ?

Lack of Spiritual Sensitivity (7-8)

“Stupor” =  katanuxis,a prickling (sensation, as of the limbs asleep), i.e. (by impl. [perh. stupor (lethargy):‑‑slumber.

Loss of Spiritual Vitality (9)

We will become religious but will not have a relationship

Life of Spiritual Slavery (10)

Picture here is of someone enslaved to sin

APPLICATION

The sad part is that many are caught in this pattern and refuse to realize it!

God says He is not finished with Israel - He has not given up on them.

Therefore, we can be happy that He has not given up on us.
