Far too many people have a fuzzy faith
“Have faith in yourself”
“You are a man of great faith...” Really? In what?

Faith Defined

Mrriam-Webster
2a(1): belief and trust in and loyalty to God 2a(2): belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion
2b(1): firm belief in something for which there is no proof; e.g. flat-earth theory 2b(2): complete trust
Underlying Greek indicates proof, guarantee or pledge

Assurance Defined

1: the state of being assured: such as
a: a being certain in the mind; e.g. the puritan's assurance of salvation
b: confidence of mind or manner
Underlying Greek relates to substructure or support

Substance Defined

1a: essential nature : ESSENCE
b: a fundamental or characteristic part or quality
Underlying Greek is a legal term of disputing; thus arguing against its non-existence

What Faith Has Done

Was used by historical figures to receive commendation
Their works, done in faith were noted, recorded and passed down in Scripture, in oral traditions and other non-canonical writings

What Faith is still Doing

“We” of v.3 includes those of the day, all who have believed since, and us yet today
It is by faith we trust the words of Scripture—believe it as it happens
